we realise that were are going to have difficulty finding somewhere to stay so we catch the First in Devon & Cornwall number 88B from the Penryn, Hendra Chemist (on Lower Market Street) bus stop at 23.31 arriving back in Falmouth, Falmouth Hotel (on Melvill Road) at 23.58, Monday (just!)

My wife and I actually stayed for ten days last August at the Falmouth Hotel (which also has a frontage on Cliff Road with a good view of Pendennis Castle)

We decide to book into the Madeira Hotel on Cliff Road (The Falmouth Hotel was fully booked) and book an early morning alarm call which enables us to make the five minute walk to Falmouth Docks railway station in time to board the 0631 FGW service to Truro that arrives there in the bay platform at 0659 on Tuesday morning.

As a side note, what were the prices like in the Falmouth Hotel?

Let me just say that they as as steep as some similar hotels in the better part of Cornwall, but I had a policy that had matured, so my wife and I used the hotel as a very good base to tour the most southern areas of Cornwall. If you walk down the side of the hotel, turn right and cross over at the roundabout and it is only a minute's walk to Falmouth Docks railway station.

Nothing doing on the steam line there, so we catch the 1151 Western Greyhound bus through to Plymouth Bretonside bus station, arriving at 1313 Tuesday

What a blow...the only mid-week trains in March on the Bodmin and Wenford Railway run on....WEDNESDAY.(Today is TUESDAY)......

Nothing ventured, nothing gained, we see as much as we can until we board the 1140 Western Greyhound service 529 to St Austell (Trinity Street) that arrives there at 1226 on Tuesday afternoon.

We find Wetherspoons and have lunch then make our way to Plymouth City Centre, Royal Parade and catch the First in Devon & Cornwall number 76 at 14.32 to Launceston, Westgate Street arriving at 15.54, Tuesday

We then get Western Greyhound 576 at 1600 and travel to Bude Strand, arriving at 1640 Tuesday

we then make our way after a bite to eat and maybe a swift pint to the Bude, The Strand (on Ergue-gaberic Way) bus stop and catch the Western Greyhound 519 service at 17.30 and alight at Hartland Northgate Green at 18.07. Tuesday

We have a short look around and then continue on Stagecoach's 319 service at 1850 to Barnstaple rail station arriving at 1942, Tuesday evening

we then take a brisk walk to catch the First in Devon & Cornwall number 1 from Barnstaple, Bus Station at 20.05 to Bideford, Bideford Quay arriving at 20.29, Tuesday

We continue on Stagecoach Devon service 21, leaving at 2057 and arriving at Westward Ho! car park at 2110, Tuesday

Time to find a nice restaurant for a leisurely evening meal, then we walk to Avon Lane to board the 2316 Stagecoach Devon service 21 to Barnstaple (opposite the station approach) that arrives there at 2357 on Tuesday night.

Pity it's not Friday night - we could have caught a train to Exeter

Instead we find a hotel for the night and have a leisurely breakfast before catching the FGW train at 0843 next morning and travelling to Lympstone Village, arriving at 1011 Wednesday

We have a look around the area near the river, then walk to the Saddlers Arms, where we board the 1103 Stagecoach Devon service 58 to Littleham (Salterton Road) tha arrives there at 1115 on Wednesday morning.

At 1126 a Stagecoach 357 bus will take us on to Budleigh Salterton Public Hall arriving at 1137, Wednesday morning

We walk to the beach area with its beach huts to pass away a few minutes then we board the 1201 Stagecoach Devon service 157 to Otterton (Cross Tree) that arrives there at 1211 on Wednesday afternoon.

We have some lunch and then take the next 157 bus at 1311 to Sidmouth ∆ arriving at 1340 on Wednesday afternoon

Sidmouth is a nice place in which to wonder with lots to see and it is with regret that we return to the Triangle to board the 1521 Stagecoach Devon service 52A to Seaton (The Long House on Harepath Road) that arrives there at 1545 on Wednesday afternoon.

as we are having problems finding onward connections we decide to jump back onto the Stagecoach in Devon & Cornwall 52A at Seaton (Marine Place) at 16.00 and alight at Exeter Bus Station at 17.30, Wednesday

We wander around Exeter for an hour, before joining the 18:30 South West Trains service from Exeter Central to Gillingham (Dorset), arriving 19:51 Wednesday

We decide to get our tents out and camp out in a random field and get some sleep before catching the Damory Coaches 309 from Gillingham, Post Office (on Station Road) at 08.37 to Shaftesbury, The Town Hall (on High Street) arriving at 08.50, Thursday

We find a café to have a hot drink to refresh us after that camping experience and then we return to the Town Hall stop in time to board the 0920 South West Coaches service 158 to Wincanton (Memorial Hall) that arrives at 1016 on Thursday morning.
