Indeed, I'd go for the latter if anything because returning straight back to where we came from does seem rather pointless, so I'll actually propose two options:

1) We return on the 1220 Dartmouth Higher Ferry service back to Dartmouth Naval College Quay, arriving there at 1225 on Thursday afternoon.

or

2) We take the eighteen minute/0.8 mile walk to the Banjo and board the 1300 Stagecoach South West service 120 to Paignton (Bus Station), arriving there at 1319 on Thursday afternoon.

Will let someone make an executive decision!
