With the use of aircraft being against the rules we have no choice but to retrace our steps on the 11.35 Johnathan Boyd service W32 to Castlebay Post Office arriving at 11.55 on Monday.

Again we have no choice but to, having stopped off for lunch, take the 15.05 Jonathan Boyd service W33 back to Castlebay Post Office arriving at 15.22 on Monday.

At 1633 we board Jonathan Boyd's bus again, back on the W32 from which we alight at 1653 at Airdmhor Ferry Terminal on Monday.

Can we escape...?

We escape Barra by boarding the 17:20 Cal Mac Ferry to Eriskay Ferry Terminal, arriving there at 18:00 on Monday evening.

Strictly by the rules we should board the 1815 ferry back to where we just left as that is the only public transport left for the day here. However, I'm going to go out on a limb and suggest we might not want to do that :)...

Lets wait the night and come back in the morning for the 0740 DA Travel W17 bus (whihc unfortunately doesn't serve the next ferryport we need to get back to civilisation) from which we can alight at Stilligarry Township at 0826 on Tuesday.

(Apologies for the lack of posts from me. Must confess I knew by deliberately waiting an hour and 45 minutes in Glasgow for a train to Oban that we were going on a wild goose chase, even more so when we got the ferry to Lochboisdale on Post #41427 and if truth be told I really struggle to work out these ridiculous timetables on these remote islands so I just give up until we're back in civilisation :D still, makes a change from the usual Manchester or East Sussex/Kent!).

As I had completely expected, that appears to be it for the rest of the day. In the morning I can see a 0740 departure on the W17 to various places I've never heard of. At a complete stab in the dark, let's alight at North Boisdale (Township South), at 0756 on Wednesday morning. I have no idea if that connects with anything useful; I'll leave that for you lot to work out whilst I dispatch trains on the civilised mainland of Britain. :D

Unfortunately not, takes us to Ardmore in Barra.

However, we can take the 1010 D A Travel service W17 to Lochboisdale (Bank), which is walking distance of the ferry back to the mainland? Arriving at 1046 on Wednesday.

@Xenophon PCDGS your move was totally valid by the rules.
However, I think @ValleyLines142 is considering that Barra is where we've just taken an age to escape from, and the only other way off Barra is via Castlebay which has a ferry to Oban about twice a week.

I do like the islands though; Merseyside is where I duck out while the game progresses 8-)

I've had a play with the timetables as it appears that we are aiming to get back to Oban one way or another...
Were we to stick with the original plan via Eriskay, we would arrive there at 1140 on Friday, having travelled via Castlebay.
Going via Lochboisdale we can depart the ferry terminal there at 0605 on Thursday morning on CalMac, arriving at Oban Ferry Terminal at 1140 on Thursday.

What is wrong with that....unless there are no onward ferries currently sailing to another destinations from Barra, such as Oban on the mainland.
Nothing, except a bus is required to Castlebay for further onward ferries. Also the ferries are really not very frequent so do bear that in mind.

I see. See now I wouldn't have been able to work that out!

Relieved to back on home turf, but still expressing a desire to explore, we enter the station and board the 1211 ScotRail service 1Y24 to Garelochhead, arriving there at 1430 on Thursday afternoon.

Doesn't operate on Thursdays.

It appears that the only sailing from Barra to Oban is an early morning one from Castlebay, but again not until Friday.

... but Cal Mac show it running 10 minutes earlier as part of a 4-week long temporary timetable...

Unless there is an Admin handy, I'd suggest that domeone who hasn't been involved in the recent island postings makes an independent call...

I personally would continue from Oban at the very least, simply because of how infrequent the ferries are to the many islands off the mainland of Scotland and also from experience we have been stuck on there for days if not weeks on end, which is not the aim of the game, as shown below from Post 2 of this thread:

Following a request for clarification on the rules on visiting outlying islands, through the use of domestic ferry services, such as the Isle of Wight and the Isle of Mull... please note that this practice is acceptable, however it is not intended that the game gets tied up on these islands for great periods of time... Taking into account #41454 and #41455 shall we therefore continue from firstly my "good faith" Oban post (as we have conflicting sources on whether there is a Thursday sailing), which in practice means continuing from @ValleyLines142 post #41449 moving us to Garelochhead at 1430 on Thursday?

And my apologies for taking us to Oban in the first place :D

Yes

Maybe I'll get the bus or train to Oban from Falkirk next Thursday just to see if that ferry exists

According to bus times it does run on Thursday...
Apologies I was looking at the wrong timetable.

With no connecting buses here we wait for the following 16.49 ScotRail service to Glasgow Queen Street alighting at Dumbarton Central at 17.13 on Thursday.
