We enter the station and there board the 1248 Southern service to Eastbourne that arrives there at 1344 on Thursday afternoon.

We leave the station and from Gildredge Road take the 14.08 Stagecoach South East service 54 to Uckfield Bus Station arriving at 15.21 on Thursday.

We take the short stroll (4 min / 0.2 mile) to the railway station where we board Southern's 1E34 towards London Bridge at 1533. We alight at Edenbridge Town at 1608 on Thursday.

We leave the station and take the 17.07 Metrobus service 233 to Tunbridge Wells, War Memorial arriving at 17.55 on Thursday.

We depart from stop F at 1805 on service 233, operated by Metrobus. We alight at Edenbridge, Post Office at 1848 on Thursday.

Avoiding the obvious destinations from here, for now at least, at 2052 we depart from stand B on Metrobus service 2, from which we alight at Tilgate (K2 Leisure Centre) at 2033 on Thursday.

At this time of day there are no other bus routes operating near here so we take the 21.12 Metrobus service 2 alighting at Ifield Parade at 21.35 on Thursday.

No longer able to avoid the obvious destinations, at 2148 we depart on Metrobus service 200, from which we alight at Gatwick Airport (North Terminal Bus Station) at 2205 on Thursday.

We next take the 22.35 National Express service 025 to Worthing, Marine Parade arriving at 23.55 on Thursday.

We next board the 0022 Stagecoach South service 700 to Goring-by-Sea (the bus stop adjacent to Aldsworth Avenue on Goring Way) that arrives there at 0035 on Friday morning.

Time for an overnight break. We then take the seven minute walk to the railway station and take the 05.29 GTR (Southern) service to Portsmouth Harbour arriving at 06.24 on Friday.

We take the ten minute/0.5 mile walk to the Wightlink Gunwharf terminal, where we board the 0720 Wightlink ferry service to Fishbourne (Ferry Terminal), arriving there at 0805 on Friday morning.

This is possibly the most badly connected ferry terminal there is, with just two buses a day, at 0046 and 0050, and the nearest alternative bus stops are over half a mile away. Therefore we have no option but to return on the next available ferry back to Portsmouth. Also noting that to the 15 minute minimum check-in time for foot passengers we need to add time to firstly disembark the ferry, we decide that we cannot make the 0820 sailing, so board the 0900 Wightlink ferry service back to Portsmouth (Wightlink Gunwharf terminal) where we arrive at 0945 on Friday.

Oh that's so annoying! I didn't realise that. I'm glad you told me in fact as I'm sailing to Fishbourne in a few weeks and was planning on walking to Fishbourne Lane on the main road!

To avoid missing out on our trip, we walk back to the Fastcat terminal inside Portsmouth Harbour station itself and board the 1015 Wightlink Fastcat service to Ryde Pier Head (Ferry Terminal), arriving there at 1037 on Friday morning.

We head to the Island Line platforms and board 2D21, the 1044 departure, from which we alight at Brading at 1058 on Friday.

We exit the station and take the five minute walk to the Bull Ring, where we board the 1113 Southern Vectis service 3 to Sandown (High Street), arriving there at 1123 on Friday morning.

We next board the 1138 Southern Vectis service 2 to Godshill ( the bus stop adjacent to the Griffin on High Street) that arrives there at 1213 on Friday afternoon.

We next take the 12.25 Southern Vectis service 3 alighting at Ventnor, Boots at 12.46 on Friday.

We have to miss the minimum 5 -minute connection time for the intended service by one minute so we pop into Boots to buy some useful stuff and next board the 1320 Southern Vectis service 3 to Shankin (Bus Station) that arrives there at 1335 on Friday afternoon.

We enter the railway station and take the 13.46 SWR (Island Line) service to Ryde Esplanade arriving at 14.09 on Friday.

From the bus station outside, we next board the 1440 Southern Vectis service 8 to Bembridge (Fire Station), arriving there at 1519 on Friday afternoon.

Not wanting to return to Ryde, we wait for the 1619 departure on Southern Vectis service 8, and alight from it at Newport (Bus Station, stand C) at 1727 on Friday.

We take the short walk to the ferry terminal and take the 20.50 Wightlink service to Walhampton, Lymington Pier Ferry Terminal arriving at 21.30 on Friday.
