We alight at Preston (Ringway, R1) at 2307 on Monday evening.

With Preston also being somewhere we've frequented a lot lately too, we are thankful to have been deposited within walking distance of the railway station, so we take the 8 minute walk there and board the 2349 Northern service 1Y65 to Salford Crescent, arriving there at 0033 in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

We take advantage of the overnight ruling then walk (5 min / 0.2 mile) to the stop "Cross Lane" at the eastern end of Churchill Way. There we board Go North West service Orbits 53 at 0442, and alight at Rusholme, Wilmslow Rd (stop D) at 0511 on Tuesday.

We walk around the corner to the Owens Park bus stop (not that I can see any evidence of said named park anywhere but that's irrelevant), where we board the 0523 Go North West CrossCity service 41 to Sale (Marsland Road*), arriving there at 0542 on Tuesday morning.

* the description isn't great, as Marsland Road is quite a long road, but it's the stop on the triangle outside the car wash at the intersection of Northenden Road.

Owens Park is the predominant University of Manchester hall of residence at that site, the site being partly built on the Owens College Athletic Ground. Owens College was a significant predecessor of UoM. Not sure that there ever was a Park in the usual sense...

We cross the triangle to Sale Moor (Village, stop C), where we board Arriva North West service 18 at 0601. We alight at Wythenshawe Hospital, stop A at 0621 on Tuesday.

An unusual station as one platform is for the Manchester Metrolink tram service and the other platform is for National Rail heavy rail services, so looking for a way out of Greater Manchester, we walk to the heavy rail platform and there board the 1233 Northern Trains service to Cuddington that arrives there at 1315 on Tuesday afternoon.

No buses are due in the two hours following the next train departure, so we continue by train on Northern's 2D47 at 1416.

The next two stops heading away from Manchester appear to have no bus service, so we alight at Chester at 1427 on Tuesday.

Surprisingly, Chester has a minimum connection time of only 5 minutes, so this enables us to board the 1432 Transport for Wales service to Bangor that arrives there at 1550 on Tuesday afternoon.
