Therefore, we have no choice but to return to Nairn and use the 08:45 Stagecoach route 10A bus departure from Nairn Bus Station as the earliest public transport service that we can use.

We take the short walk to Jamieson's Quay in Aberdeen before checking in at the NorthLink Ferries booking office. Then, we board the M.V. Hrossey, operated by NorthLink Ferries. At 17:00 on Sunday evening, our boat begins to pull away from the harbour.

We arrive at 23:00 at Hatston Ferry Terminal, Orkney, and disembark the ferry.

Suprised to see a bus turn up so late at night on an island we get on the 23:59 Stagecoach North Scotland service X10 to Kirkwall Travel Centre (Stand 2), arriving at 00:30 Monday morning.

Upon arriving in Kirkwall, we retire to the nearby St Ola Hotel on the harbourfront, where we bed down for the night. In the morning, after a hearty Orcadian breakfast, we wander to the Travel Centre and find the 09:15 Stagecoach Orkney route 8S bus service waiting for us.

We decide to board this service, and ride it to The Ring of Brodgar, Stenness, where we decide to get off to explore the historic Neolithic circle of standing stones, set in the middle of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. As we step off our bus, we notice using our watch that the service arrived there on time at 09:35 on Monday morning.

I see no-one was interested in the bus service from Thurso to Dounreay when we were in that area......
