Our passports may have been confiscated, but nevertheless we can't resist a ride on AirRail Link! It doesn't operate to a timetable*, but allowing for the minimum connection, we get a train at 15:56, which takes us to Birmingham International Airport Terminal at 15:58 on Wednesday afternoon.

*2 minute frequency + 5 minute interchange time = 7 minutes, 90 second journey time.

Allowing enough time to change transport modes, we make our way down to the Metrolink platforms in the station undercroft and board the 2228 Metrolink service to Shaw and Crompton, arriving there at 2309 on Thursday evening.

We leave the station, and see that a 408 bus is due at the nearby stop of Shaw Road. The 408 runs to Stalybridge, and this is an attractive proposition for us. The Manchester Community Transport 408 bus arrives at 23:23, however as its the last bus of the day it terminates at Oldham Bus Station, leaving us there at 23:44 on Thursday evening.

Additional Notes

• If arriving by bus or coach then you should name the area in addition to the stop name.
• If a move is discovered to be incorrect then the original post should be struck through and the correction made as a new post.
• Should the previous move leave you at a the end of a route for which there are no services timetabled to depart from then you may walk to the nearest stop where services are available.
• So the game remains realistic, you should use the current timetable for the relevant day not including timetable variations for engineering works.

You will note the emboldened part of the final section of these "Additional Notes" that are shown above and we now already have a problem.

On the Manchester Metrolink system, because of engineering works at the St Peter's Square new extended stop that is part of the new 2CC line under progress of construction, for a time period of eight weeks from the "quiz date" onwards the normal service pattern is to be totally recast, yet the notes above clearly state NOT to use timetable variations for engineering works.

We have just had a posting from Manchester Piccadilly (mention being made of the Undercroft) to Shaw and Crompton using the Manchester Metrolink system, but the NORMAL service is from East Didsbury via Manchester Victoria to Shaw and Crompton, then on to Rochdale. Normally these services NEVER access Manchester Piccadilly.

As it's more permanent, I don't think it really matters to be honest.

Furthermore, someone could have just taken us from Piccadilly to Market Street or Shudehill, then we could have gone to Shaw and Crompton, so no big issues
