After a wet twenty-minute wait, we shuffle towards our next train, the 0952 departure towards Epsom Downs. However, we are forced off the train at Waddon, due to a fire at Carshalton Beeches. The time is now 1007 on this dreary Sunday morning.

We then leave the trains behind, and hop onto the Number 358 Metrobus (for TfL) service at 09:45. We stay with it the whole way, arriving at Orpington Station at 10:46 on Sunday morning.

Being beaten again, I reconsider my plan and we have a short walk to the bus station. We just miss a 289 TfL (operated by Arriva) bus, but wait around for the next one twenty minutes later at 10:32 and stay with it until its terminus at Elmer's End Interchange, arriving at 11:16 on Sunday Morning.

Now queasy after going over almost every pothole on the way, we alight from our bus and board a tram - more specifically, the 1125 Tramlink Line 1 service to the westernmost point of the loop - Church Street. We arrive at 1141 on Sunday morning.

The 221 isn't a once daily service; it operates all day on Sunday (in fact the first bus is at 0601 on a Sunday, which is pretty impressive!)

We then call it a night before crossing the road to the Quarry Street bus stop, where we board the 0538 First in South Yorkshire service 22 to Barnsley (Interchange), arriving there at 0626 on Monday morning.

I suspect the 221 service I saw on Onbus.info was the only short working to the Bus Garage at Rawmarsh. I agree the full 221 service normally links Doncaster and Rotherham.

Continuing our journey we then take the 0748 East Midlands Trains service and alight at Leicester where we arrive at 0859 on Monday morning.

Then, after finding a quick bite of lunch on the go, we hop onto the 747 Centrebus service at 12:26 which, despite our expectations, goes nowhere near an airport for its entire route. We stay with it all the way to its terminus at Uppingham North Street, arriving at 13:21 on Monday Afternoon.

Isn't there a minimum connection time of five minutes per move, unless otherwise stated?

There is - unless you're connecting to a bus at the same stop/ train at the same platform, the connection time is 5 minutes unless stated elsewhere.
