Nothing is more relaxing than a long leisurely bus ride in this part of Cumbria, so making the 5 minute walk to the bus station, we next board the 1707 Stagecoach in Cumbria service 300 to Thursby (Low Whinnow Farm) that arrives there at 1834 on Saturday evening.

We then board the 1840 Stagecoach in Cumbria service 400 to Carlisle (Bus Station), arriving there at 1905 on Saturday evening.

Hearing a cry of "Ever northward" in the far distance, we next board the 1543 ScotRail service to Inverness that arrives there at 1749 on Sunday afternoon.

Making overnight arrangements, we take the 6 minute walk from railway station to the bus stop outside the High School on Ormlie Road where the first bus service of the day starts and board the 0620 Stagecoach Scotland service X99 to Latheronwheel (Bus Shelter) that arrives there at 0659 on Monday morning.

Thereafter we have a break for lunch in the lovely town of Dornoch. Quick walk to Dornoch academy and then onto Ardgay on the number 1 bus operated by MacLeod's coaches leaving at 15:25. We arrive opposite the Post Office at 15:50 on Monday afternoon.

Continuing our omnibus travelogue, we next board the 1720 MacLeods Coaches service 900 to Tain (Asda store on Knockbreck Road that arrives there at 1748 on Monday afternoon.

We take McLeods Coaches service 2 at 1847 and travel to Lairg Post Office, arriving at 1942 Monday evening.

And we appear to be stuck for the night in Lairg. And the station is a fair walk away down a dark country road. So we head off to a lovely B&B via the pub, for some local Whisky of course!

So after a refreshing rest, we get on the 08:00 number 906 bus to Helmsdale Square, operated by who else but MacLeod's Coaches. We arrive at 09:10 on what is now Tuesday morning.

Let's change travel modes now and board 2H56, the 0948 ScotRail service to Inverness, arriving there at 1215 on Tuesday afternoon.

Having seen much of the north-east region, we now decide to head to the west coast and board the 1333 ScotRail service to Kyle of Lochalsh that arrives there at 1600 on Tuesday afternoon.

From the bus stop at the Harbour Slipway, we next board the Scottish Citylink service 916 at 1625 and travel all the way to Glasgow, Buchanan Bus Station, arriving at 2209 on Tuesday evening.

Still time to return to a more westerly area, so we next board the 2230 Stagecoach West Scotland service X36 to Ardrossan (Hill Street) that arrives there at 2346 on Tuesday evening.

Aww, I was enjoying my romp through the Far North :cry:

Anyway, intimidated by the big city, we decide to leave as quickly as we arrive. After a quick sprint over to Stand 36, we get on the 22:15 First Glasgow X85 service out to Campsie Glen. However, realising just how remote Campsie Glen is, we get off early and arrive Lennoxtown Cross at 22:49 on Tuesday Evening.

Unfortunately, we were instead taken to the far less beautiful "Three Towns", and worse yet... we're stuck! So we head to a local B&B and after a poor night's sleep, we hop on the 585 bus operated by Stagecoach to Ayr, leaving at 06:55 and getting into Ayr Bus Station at 07:45.
