Services here are extremely limited, so we had better head back to the built up areas as we return on the 1447 Stagecoach West service 44 to Bridstow (School), arriving there at 1506 on Tuesday afternoon.

Both those last two areas had a population of less than 900 at the time of the 2011 census, Little Dewchurch had 402 and Bridstow had 859, so reference to "the built-up areas" is somewhat misleading.

I'm not referring to populations, more at the fact that there are only two services a day from Little Dewchurch. And clearly the little population shows how quiet the area is; it doesn't imply built up like Ross-on-Wye for instance.

It's most definitely not 600 yards. I go to Gloucester regularly and it's not within half a mile. I'd re-calculate.
Edit: a quick check shows its 0.6 miles away (which is 880 yards).

I have struck-through my posting that was affected by this recent adjudication, which then leaves the queried one prior to it # 23052 in Newent still needing to be struck-through.

My recheck suggests 750 yards but I have deleted my post anyway. I wanted to go to Newent because I have family connections there. It's a bit odd because the 132 service calls at Gloucester (The Warehouse) in the inbound direction but not, it seems, in the outbound direction. I guess that's the consequence of a one-way system.

All buses from here seem to lead to either Cheltenham or Gloucester, so we walk 150 yards to the St John's Avenue bus stop and wait for the 19:23 Stagecoach West service 97 to Gloucester Transport Hub (Arrivals), where we alight at 19:45 on Tuesday evening.

Rather inconveniently, this bus isn't timed to connect with the 0835 to Cardiff, which leaves as we've just arrived. Not very good for such an infrequent service.

One of my good friend's is from Newent too - small world.
We exit the station and take the nine minute, 0.4 mile walk to the bus station, where we board the 1652 Stagecoach Cumbria & North Lancashire service 42 to Layton (Square), arriving there at 1818 on Wednesday evening.
