The fact that there is a 10 minute minimum connection here means we cannot use the train we wanted so changing over from the Wirral line plaforms to the Northern Rail platforms, we board the 1508 Merseyrail service to Southport that arrives there at 1555 on Tuesday afternoon.

Time to make our first visit to the new Bolton Interchange via the new connecting bridge from the railway station, so we take the four minutes walk along it to the interchange and there board the 1726 Stagecoach Merseyside and South Lancashire service 125 to Clayton Brook (Great Green Lane) that arrives there at 1831 on Tuesday evening.

I have now struck through that posting and will, in future, take anything told to me by an administrative employee of the Stagecoach organisation with "a dose of salt"....

The ignominy of having our seemingly-valid move 'struck out' of existence, after being revealed to us as a product of misinformation, leaves a bitter taste in our mouth. We seek to leave the area, and do so on the 17:31 Northern rail service to Ulverston, the humble little town where Stan Laurel was born and where Stagecoach buses ply the nearby roads.

Our train remains on time and arrives at the pretty station, with its long green canopies and red detailing, at 19:11 as scheduled on this fine Tuesday evening.

We leave the station and take the eight minute walk to the bus stop that serves the library on Victoria Road and there board the 1931 Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire service 6 to Hawcoat ( the Dalton Road bus stop that is opposite Abbey Park Hospital) that arrives there at 1952 on Tuesday evening.

NOTE : There seems a queue of people waiting for this bus to arrive who have been making hospital visits.

We then board the 08:40 Stagecoach Cumbria and North Lancashire route 555 Lakes Connection bus service to Wythburn Church, arriving there at 09:53 on Wednesday morning.

The church at Wythburn is all that is left of the village, which was on Wythburn Water, a tarn. Both the villages of Wythburn and Armboth were drowned when Wythburn Water was connected to Leathes Water, another tarn, and Thirlmere reservoir created.

Why include this history? Simply put, it's because Thirlmere is being threatened by a campaign to sling a few zipwires across the reservoir, disturbing the views and tranquility. There's currently a petition against them, and only 775 signatures are needed to reach 1,5000!
