We make camp for a bit of night spotting and spot a couple of ECS moves and a freight move before making the early morning train.

We take this, the 04:45 Arriva Trains Wales service to Craven Arms, arriving there at 05:13 Wednesday morning.

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
This is where we've just come from. Are there no other destinations on the route we can go to?

I beg to differ:-
We arrived at Sheffield railway station. No mention was made about which tram stop was then used.
We then took a Sheffield Supertram service to Birley Moor Road tram stop
We then took a Sheffield Supertram service to Hallam University tram stop
It is now 0043 on Thursday morning.

Sheffield Station and Hallam University are the same stop. And when we arrived I said making our way to tram stop outside, so I did specify. So from our arrival at 2315 we've effectively gone A to B to A, hence why I wondered if we could go anywhere else just to mix things up.

But anyway, we then board the 0535 Supertram service to Herdings Park, arriving there at 0552 on Thursday morning, where hopefully we won't go back to the station again

I think that it was the arrival time of 0043 in the morning that worried me more than anything else in the matter of an onward connection still available to be used at that time.

Very well.

We remain at Herdings Parks at 0552 on Thursday morning (the 0043 arrival at Sheffield Station/Hallam University was the final tram of the night).
