Unfortunately this just misses connections to both Skipton and Kirkby Lonsdale so we take the five minute walk to the railway station and take the first available train the 14.19 to Carlisle arriving at 15.58 on Monday.

Observations.
That appears to cut our Monday evening options either by bus or train to nil, so wanting a rest after that long journey from Dumfries, we just have to bide our time until we next board the 0750 Scottish Citylink service 923 to Ayr (Bus Station) that arrives there at 0920 on Tuesday.
There was still a bus at 20.30 to Portpatrick although that would have been a dead end.

There was also a train to Glasgow at 07.04 (Port Rodie is close to the railway station) which would have got us to Ayr at 08.27.

Continuing the game.

We enter the station and board the 2051 Merseyrail service 2S59 to Birkdale, arriving there at 2118 on Tuesday.

Too late in the day for a round of golf so we take the 21.33 Merseyrail service to Southport arriving at 21.40 on Tuesday.

Observational response.

That I was aware of but did not want to be accused of leaving everyone stranded there. I was unsure of the actual distance from the Port Rodie Tesco store where that last arrival there had left us to the railway station, so I decided to use the Scottish Citylink service 923 which I knew was departing from the location we were actually at. I don't think you can compare buses and trains noting a possibility of one leaving slightly before the other, as they are two different modes of transport going to two totally different locations. I am sure that some years ago, a member of the forum quizmaster team made that very point.

At least there were better Tuesday morning options from where we were at Port Rodie Tesco than from Portpatrick and we don't often visit Ayr.
