Does this mean all TOC sites that use it cannot be used either? :)

I always cringe at their television advert. Those who don't know much about the railways always presume that the trainline is the only website you can purchase tickets from for all TOCs. I've had a hard time trying to persuade people otherwise, though those I did convince thanked me for saving them the booking fee.

Is there a risk that the remaining few - especially Chiltern and East Coast, given no-on trusts the others any more - may suffer an overload and crash?

All sites are at the risk of crashing. If they get too many clicks at one time the server goes kaputt. When the Government brought in the new 'crime in your area revealed' website it went down pretty fast. There were so many people trying to get on!

Angry customers realising that for years they were paying more than those buying tickets elsewhere?

I did wonder earlier whilst trying to save money by buying tickets through the EMT website why it wasn't working.

What are you bleating on about you two? It sounds like you're bah-king mad.
I noticed on VT's FB page a few people commenting about problems using their ticket site, but thought nothing of it. I always use East Coast's site personally.

Perhaps it'll convince more TOC's to switch to the GNER booking engine and either force thetrainline to improve or go out of business.

Didn't GNER invest the money in developing the better booking engine, but with their financial woes the site was only ready a few weeks before GNER disappeared. So it was GNER branded for a few weeks before NXEC took over.

Now the restaurants are going, a better booking engine is one of GNER's last remaining legacies.

Yeah London Midland use it as do Southern, Chiltern and East Coast (obviously ). To be honest it's definitely my favourite of the booking engines out there, it seems to show information much clearer than the trainline powered engines do, shame more TOC don't use it!

GNER did ask their regular customers for feedback when developing the new booking engine. I received an email asking me to try it out a couple of months before it was publicly launched (& received special discount on any tickets purchased whilst doing so). I tried booking some tickets with it & filled in the online feedback form. GNER also sent me a complimentary 1st class return travel voucher in the post valid for 12 months. By the time I used it, NX had taken over.

I was a GNERtime member at the time and never did get invited for the beta testing of the site. I think that's because prior to the launch of the new booking engine I never booked tickets online because I despised thetrainlines interface and so I used to just use GNER's excellent telesales service.

It seems to be working now.

Why all the venom? If you prefer another portal, use it.

The last time i went to use the EC booking site (which i have always done since GNER days) they tried to charge me some fee. Cant remember if it was booking fee or postage. Something they had never done before. I promptly cancelled the tickets, and went through EMTs site, which actually isnt too bad, and never charged me any extras.

The thing on the TV...

Bloomin stupid advert. Some adverts are banned for being more honest than The Trainlines advert. I cant stand it.

Oh yeah, they now charge for postage which is something NXEC never lowered themself to do.

However, they only charge postage if it's on a route where you can't collect from a ticket machine and even then sometimes there's still no charge showing for postage.

There's other train operators using the GNER booking engine now anyway, so it's easy to change if necessary (I was using Southern during the period NXEC were not accepting Amex cards).

i like to book by phöe and frequantly p off tocs opperaters by booking for a different toc, to avoid using the middle east call centres. I'm not racist but having to spell stations like edinburgh really anoys me!

You get my backing on that matter! I can't think of anyone in the right mind who WOULD call a middle eastern centre unless it was absolutely ESSENTIAL!

BT, Barclays, HSBC; they all send you out there!
