shunting is great you won't regret it. I'm in a Depot Driver role which includes not only driving but getting out of the cab to do the ground shunting as well. I say the "ground shunting" element of the role is possibly more enjoyable than the actual driving.
I consider myself pretty lucky in that I'm going to be doing shunt training in a few weeks time as part of my training with freightliner. My job role is wagon and carriage examiner/engineer at the port of Felixstowe terminals, but Iv done my shunt coarse and just waiting to do 8 weeks mentoring prior to getting assessed. Then I'll be able to shunt as well. It is a very enjoyable job, gotta have your wits about you though, as there's no room for mistakes.
Congrats and good luck at Felixstowe. Freightliner at Felixstowe are understaffed and the staff they do have work to the bone. I dont envy them!![]()
