Yes to the coaches as it is the only loco hauled set that Virgin have, pretty sure it will be hauled by a class 90 more than likely the same one that does 1K39 on the Friday.

Voyagers do it in about 4 hours, so it's not far off really. This tour does have fewer stops than a scheduled service, though.

Nonetheless an 86 plus mk IIs (max speed 100mph) was timed to do Edinburgh > Birmingham in 4 hrs 38 on the 12:40 Edinburgh > Cardiff in 1985. Bear in mind that 7 minutes were lost joining the Glasgow portion at Carstairs, plus the train was diesel hauled from Edinburgh, and would have had to slow and speed up again for the now defunct stop at Carstairs itself, this is comparable to 4 hr 25 today. Ho hum. How much money spent on realignments, signalling and stock for the WCML, and for how much real improvement?

According to Railway Herald this tour is now cancelled. Anyone know why? Can't get any sense out of RTC!

The reason for the cancellation is lack of interest and wasn't viable for them to run the trip! Agreat disappointment to my collegues who had booked premiere dining. Oh well we'll take our £800 elsewhere

Do you mean that?
Is it the Company which has been unreliable or the market (the passengers / 'enthusiasts') which hasn't met expectations?
I certainly would expect any serious operator to withdraw a proposal if a certain level of business wasn't developing. It would be a foolish and probably doomed operator who kept going even when all the indications were that lack of sales meant that they'd be unable to meet their liabilities - in fact, that would very probably be classed as 'illegal trading' in terms of insolvency legislation.

Technically it's the Severn Valley Railway who are running the tour. RTC are the booking agents.
