Same number of applications for street closures here in Sandwell - one. The total population is over 280,000. There may be more actual parties, I don't think you need permission to close a street if it is not a through road.

I wont be watching. I have to work. What gets me is its classed as a bank holiday and im only getting flat money. It dont seem fair
I've seen this debated on a number of occasions, but truth be told, I'm not sure if you are entitled to extra or not.
A lot of organizations pay extra for working unsociable hours, for example, Nurses, but do bank holidays count as well? :-?

Need to keep people distracted from the real issues (wonder how much wrongness "they'll" get away with that day while all the focus is on this?), and keep people knitted together behind a backward, repressive, and money wasting ideology..

Prince Andrew fought in the Falklands as a helicopter pilot flying from Invincible, Harry has been deployed to Afghanistan and William is flying as a Search and Rescue pilot with the RAF (not front line but can still be dangerous in its own ways). Prince Philip served on various Royal Navy warships during WW2 including stints on convoy escort duty in the Atlantic, Indian and Pacific Oceans. Both Prince Charles and Prince Edward served but Britain was not involved in any significant conflicts during their periods of service.

A fair amount I should imagine, especially if civil unrest in Ivory Coast was anything to go by (totally eclipsed by Libya). That being said I reckon it will be an unpopular domestic issue slipped through not unlike the Digital Economy Bill last year

I have to say I'm surprised by those complaining about the media coverage of the royal wedding. I watch the news every weeknight and have probably heard more about it from this thread than in the media!
I end up hearing more about football and other sports from the media (when I don't really care) than I do about this wedding. And that's constant, on all throughout the year it seems!
I'm glad for the extra holiday, whilst I'll be doing extra time at work, it means I'll get a day off in lieu to have some time off when it's more useful to me.

The sole reason why most of us are glad about the wedding!
Seriously though, they spent about half an hour on the news the other day talking about the horses that are being trained for the 'big day'. How on earth this can possibly be news is beyond me.

Will be at work............ thank god! I also think that everyone should be working. I actually believe that it should be treated as a normal day, so if you dont turn up for work you get docked a days pay (just like me if i dont turn up) and you will be disciplined (just like me if i dont turn up).
I've got the day off. I won't be watching the wedding, and I won't be going anywhere near London!

We have been given an extra days leave which has been added to our floating days total but if you are booked to work on the day then you are working. We get nothing extra for working a Bank Holiday, it's just another day for us.
Luckily (or unluckily) I am rostered rest day for the wedding day.
I won't be watching as I will be busy watching two games in the Northern Premier League (thats football for those who don't know !!)

I think that's the only good thing about the Royal Wedding: the extra day off.
Those that are complaining are justified. The media's coverage of what is, in essence, a non-event is completely out of proportion. Why should we all stop work at the expense of 2 people we hardly know? Yes no-one is forcing us to watch the Royal Wedding, but the only viable alternative to watching it is to work on that day. Pity then it's a day off (note the ironic contradiction to my statement above).

I don't watch the news, so I can;t speak for what has or hasn't been said there. What I do know is that there are increasing numbers of pointless programmes like 'Britain's Royal Weddings' and 'Meet the Middletons' being traileld, and that's enough for me.
Plus, of course, you can't open a paper without something about 'Kate' or 'Wills' (how I hate that shortening) seemingly on every page.

I'll be doing several hours of start of term exams at University on the day of the wedding...so as you can imagine, it's not something I'm getting particularly excited about... 
The pub over the road is planning to open early to screen the wedding (and no doubt make a few bob) so that might be one reason to stay and watch. Otherwise, I'm going for a very long walk and doing a bit of photography, or perhaps heading off to finally do the Fen Line.

The news (all media type) and TV are all full these days of stuff like football, Xcacktor, Britain's Got Tallant (really?), What Katie Did Next, What Katie is doing this very second:roll: Big Bother etc etc. I'm not a fan of the Royals but I really don't think a couple of months of wedding run up stuff is that bad. Certainly the TV that I tend to watch hasn't been affected by it.
What ever our opinions on the matter, Royal weddings and funerals are always going to be national talk and lets be honest, the future king getting married is not an every day event like some of the crud on TV.

Unlucky! Good luck all the same. I'd definitely rather watch the wedding than do an exam, no matter how fed I am with all the coverage!
Football, X Factor, BGT are at least popular - the Royal Wedding seems to eb a bit of a niche market in comparison! Not sure about Katie Price though. And before anyone asks, I'm not fond of any of them,though I do watch Match of the Day now and again,

True, but the coverage so far has certainly not been in perspective.
And that, to me, is the crux of this whole Royal Wedding.

As much as I don't really consider myself a staunch royalist, to put this wedding in the same bracket as BGT, X factor and so on is a little unfair. If Kate wanted to shorten her name to 'Kat' then the media could rightly cause a fuss, since it attracts the unwanted comparison to a tacky ladette.
The event itself is not the problem - its the way everything else latches onto it to flog services and goods. For instance, Private Eye devoted a section to this sort of thing, including one company flogging limited edition DOG COATS carrying the union jack, and the wedding date loving embroidered. Are they having a laugh?
I have very little time for Hello! fillers like mr cowell, katie price, cheryl tweety etc. Their respective talents include having an keen ear for a pound sign, having a pout that will stick out further than her chest in 2 years, and being an over-emotional mug who can mime to a soundtrack.
