So, who's watching it?

I can tell you for sure, I won't be.

There are soldiers fighting in Afghanistan and people dyeing from the Japanese earthquake, yet the BBC decided to spend a large chunk of this mornings news bulletin talking about how the horses were being brushed and practiced for the ceremony.

For the past week, I've been watching the English version of Al-Jazeera, as all the other news teams seem to be obsessed with the colors of the wedding menus and the paper being used to send the invitations.

I'm happy for the couple, but the coverage has become a joke.

The BBC have been dumbing down for a few years now. It wasn't that long ago that I remember Strictly Come Dancing having priority over all real news o 5 Live.

Japan is old news and Afghanistan is even older. People are still doing but they've been dying for a while so it's no longer newsworthy. I have to admit I started reading Al Jazeera after the blatant lie that the Libya campaign was to protect civilians

That being said I shall not be watching because I couldn't give a flying you-know-what although rather hypocritically I will taking advantage of the fact it's a bank holiday.

No-one I know has been particularly excited about the Royal Wedding, and neither am I to be honest. It's because the great British taxpayer (and student, since I am one) has become so disenchanted with our current government that we couldn't give a monkeys about the royal wedding...

What have the royal family done to deserve this? They may not be perfect, but to deserve this treatment??

Im not a royalist, and i dont follow the ins and outs of the royal family, but i wouldnt be i dont see why they deserve to be lined up against a wall.
Very harsh.
If you dont want to watch the wedding, then fine. Neither will i, but i wish them all well.

I won't be watching. My day off anyway. Maybe I can go shopping as there will be no one around.

I'll certainly be making the most of the day off. I was thinking of going into London but my wife says it'll probably be carnage with all the street parties and people traveling to try and get there.

So I'll wake up, have breakfast and put Railworks 2 on...

...And that'll be the day sorted!

The Royal Wedding may be costing taxpayers a considerable amount, however the tourism revenues and positive attention that the country will attract as a result of it will go some way to replacing that.

I am not a royalist either, but it is important occasion for them and I wish them well.

Regarding the news coverage, while I have the upmost respect and sympathies for those fighting wars and suffering in natural disasters, it's pleasing to have some 'positive' news for a change.

Just one small point, it's already been annouced that The royal family and the Middletons will foot the bill for the ceremony between them, though the cost of security will be met by the taxpayer.

The only service personnel involved are those already on ceremonial duty in London. No one will come out of training or from combat duties.

These are freely available via Google :)

I'm unable to watch the service live but will make sure I tape it, will give me something to watch that weekend when I get the chance.

As a Royalist, I think I'm gonna have to watch, I'd rather taxpayer's money went to that than other projects.

Why anyone would want to watch a wedding of someone they have never met, or are ever likely to meet is beyond me. Watching videos of family weddings is bad enough

Maybe because it's better then some of the nauseating reality tv shows which seem to fill the airwaves, anything has to be better then that junk.

Spot on there! My brother insisted on showing his wedding to all the family just a week after the event. I don't know why, we were all there anyway!

I have no interest in the royal wedding, although it's nice to have an extra day off. The media coverage is now going into overdrive, which makes me think that the establishment is trying to convince us all that society in general is really looking forward to it, everyone is having a street party, sales of tea towels have gone through the roof, and we should be grateful with the royals for sharing this event with the rest of us.

I suspect the reality is far from that, but the BBC would probably be in trouble for being unpatriotic if they actually reported the mass indifference that seems to be prevalent!

I am not a royalist. I will be ignoring the wedding as far as I can. Lots of people want to watch it That does not affect me. I object, though, to the blanket coverage in the media and the constant claims that the whole country is getting ready to celebrate - 'most' might be correct, 'some' would be completely accurate. There will, of course, be wide coverage of strett parties and the like and absolutely nothing about all the people that are not doing anything special. Not that I will see any of this on my TV, of course; I have plenty of DVDs to watch and books to read.

I agree with you. I'm not a big royalist, but I think going the same way as Russia and France might be a bit on the extreme side. I don't think any of them deserve the death penalty. Indeed, they deserve to be honoured; they do have a long and proud tradition of serving in the military.

I won't be watching the wedding, but good luck to them. I hope they're happy together. (And hopefully the media will leave Kate alone, although I doubt that that's going to happen... :( )

More to life than watching TV (any of it) ;)

I rarely watch TV, it's just from reading various magazines which passengers leave on seats it's X Factor this, Dancing on Ice that, boring.

Not at all, but I work in London, and everybody I know has been given the day off.

Presumably you don't know any doctors, nurses, waiters, bar staff, shop staff, bus drivers, paramedics, police officers, firefighters or many of the othe rpeople that will be at work!

Doubt I'll be watching as have uni deadlines to meet :( although I doubt I would have watched it anyway.

Thankfully it would appear quite a few people at the uni will also be working that day and over the entire weekend due to the upcoming deadlines so all the bank holidays look like they will cause less of a problem :)

Not at all, but I work in London, and everybody I know has been given the day off.

So no suburban trains will run, no underground, no buses, no ferries, no taxis. All Hospitals will be closed, Emergency Chemists etc etc?
