Previously published drafts of Operation Unicorn (the plan for the Queen's death if she should pass away in Scotland) referred to the preferred use of the Royal Train to bring the Queen back to London after lying in state at Holyrood and St Giles' Cathedral. Whilst I understand that the plan is actually for an RAF plane to be used, I'm just curious to know how a coffin would be transported on the Royal Train in a practical sense, given it needs to be fixed down. Would they place it in the luggage compartment of the brake coach, or is there provision within one of the saloons for this? I can't imagine they'd follow the procedure from Churchill's funeral of using a spruced-up luggage van.
