The push pull Edinburgh - Inverness, 23rd & 24th September

I'm booked on the above together with my wife. We're joining at Glasgow Queen Street. Going to Inverness is via Perth and the HML and is shown as leaving Glasgow at 10.00 and arriving in Inverness at 17.00. Return leg is via Aberdeen, Dundee and the Tay and Forth Bridges. Leaves Inverness at 09.00 and arrives in Glasgow at 15.00.

There's not much detail on the Inter City website, so does anyone know why the Saturday journey takes 7 hours? Presumably stops somewhere en route?

It makes two round trips on the E-G, ie Edinburgh - Glasgow - Edinburgh - Glasgow - Inverness. That's pretty much the whole point of the tour - 100mph running with the 47/7 and the DBSO rake to recreate the trains which ran between the two cities in the 1980s.
