Where do people find this gen on the Pretendolino? Is this extended diagram likely to become a regular feature every Friday?

My office window is my gen source! I try to see what turns up at MKC on the 0830 service from Birmingham. Nothing more high tech i am afraid!

What do forumers think of the Pretendolino?

I travelled on it tonight between Birmingham and Wolves by chance as it was the next service, and was surprised by the number of rail enthusiasts using it considering it runs every week it's nothing really that special surely?

I wouldn't say it's just a bog standard run. I'd say it's special as 90 workings aren't that varied, the only daytime runs are on the GEML (unless I have missed something) but there are 90 followers who like a trip on K39. Some might prefer a 90 on the WCML to call back the old days, I'd certainly travel on that service if I could each week, happy memories of VT87/90 haulage!

I have only done it once from my awkward location and I loved the experience...after MKC anyway. Many people are probably on it to ride behind a different 90 too as they change each week, and are Freightliner ones hardly found on any other service

Well, I've not set foot on it (nice coaches, shame about the engine) but I'm still happy to post the gen out. These days hauled = rateable to a lot of people regardless of the actual traction - nothing wrong with that of course but explains some of the interest as there is so little else in the Midlands/North West.

Think u've hit it on the head mate - One proper train, Running once a week... depends how old u are / how long you've been into railways of course, but those onboard (including me once a month or so) mostly consider it the only proper train on the WCML, a line many of us have travelled over in comfort, in the not too recent past.

Long Live the Pretendo!! Plus it gets me out of the house on a weekend  :D

The food service in FC is terrible on the pretendolino (ham sandwich etc), which is a problem because it operates a Friday evening service which is noted in the timetable as featuring a full evening meal. I really think the train is one for the enthusiasts and normal punters would go for a 390 given the choice.

What are the other aspects of the FC service like? (Drinks, desserts etc)

There's a trolley service with a limited selection of drinks. Dessert would be a cake or muffin etc.

Mental note made to avoid First on this service! When I was on the 1743 I had a full meal, dessert and possibly 8 alcoholic drinks.

Don't know, was on the Coal Grinder today and mentioned in bypassing to a steward I know about the 90s, then called someone over who said 'It's finishing next week, we are pulling it out and swapping it for a 11-car Pendolino turn instead'

I said I was hoping it would last until the end of the year, then it was a straight 'nope'.

The way the steward said 'we', I assume he is some form of VT staff or some way connected, some Stewards are also staff too anyway. First I heard about it either case!

End of 90 haulage next friday so I hear from a source, 11 car pendo from then on...:(

I've been told M-Th it will be the first diagramed 11 car pendo but Friday it should still be the Mk3 set. 18:57 additional to Man Picc will be worked by the 11 car on a Friday.

AFAIK it will still be 90-hauled on a Friday, but this may be subject to change. However, I will be on this coming Friday's working out of Euston if anyone wants to come and say hello! ;)

It's tempting, I'm considering a SVH out to BHM and an Advance 1st back!

Could anyone confirm the 16:50 BHM-EUS is the 90 today? Thanks in advance.

I got asked to do a taxi run to Bletchley this morning, so on my return I stopped off at the Spenlows Road footbridge, and captured the Pretendolino going north at around 11.29am. Got a nice toot from the driver, or was it for the guys working trackside?

Short video

No gen if it's the final? I just remember him saying there will probably be a lot going out for it but then I haven't heard any more waffle about next week. He did sound like he knew but I hope it was some serious duff gen!
