Whilst on the 1004 Preston to Barrow in Furness service today we passed the West Coast Train (1Z86?) in a loop north of Preston with a West Coast 47 on the front.
Later when on the 1140 Barrow in Furness to Carlisle we passed 1Z87 Carlisle to Hereford between Carlisle and Dalston, I am sure it had a West Coast Class 47 on the front and not a Steam Loco, am I correct?

I believe you are correct, "Galatea" only worked forward from Sellafield, the 47 (47237 reportedly) having brought the train down from Carlisle.
