The RC church does accept the baptism administered by other Christian denominations as valid provided it is done with water in the name of the holy trinity. Trumps problem is that he would have to be ordained a deacon, then a priest and then consecrated a bishop and then become a cardinal before he could be Pope.

Pedantically, apart from being 35 year old or older Catholic man, there are no formal requirements. But someone not a cardinal being elected hasn't happened since 1200

Can we have a serious discussion about the next pope? It will be interesting if the church takes a more conservative direction, despite 100 of 125 cardinals appointed by the liberal leaning pope Francis, more than expected have conservative positions on social issues and liturgy.

Interestingly bookmakers are providing odds on the next pope, which in Catholic teaching would get them thrown out of the temple Pietro Parolin, the Italian who is set to preside over the conclave, is favourite, with Filipino Luis Tagle second-favourite.

Unlikely though. It's been a while since an Italian pope - John Paul I (1978) was the last, and he only lasted 34 days - so I wouldn't be surprised to see the conclave return Pietro Parolin as the new Pontiff.

My italics -- off-topic; but I always had a fondness for the Filipino churchman who, on attaining cardinal's rank, got the official but unfortunate appellation of Cardinal Sin (Jaime Lachica Sin, 1928 -- 2005). I gather than the reverend gentleman had a sense of humour, and enjoyed this incongruity.
