I quote rule 1, highlighting the point that allows Marylebone (and other such terminal stations such as Lowestoft). Looking at the previous leg, foul could have been called against me for starting at Eastbourne as the next station was on the same line.

1. How to play

At the start of a game, the OP(at the very beginning or if necessary) or the player who previously ended a leg of the journey, will choose a starting station (unless the player has called an open floor, in which any player can choose a starting station) that adheres to the following criteria:

It is on NR rails (or Merseyrail)
It is not just a terminal station (There are two or more different stations that can be reached from it, on separate lines.)
It is not the same station as the one which ended the previous leg.

Once a starting station has been selected, players can take turns at moving to following stations. The next station on a passenger line that serves the starting station is entirely valid, as is travelling in any direction if there are one or more junctions nearby. If the station is served by a faster service along any passenger line, it is valid provided that you quote the operator and route. A route name should not be specified, but the nearest passenger stations to the start and end of the route should be specified in brackets (These do not need to be submissions to the quiz).

These routes and services must be on the timetable at the time of posting.

With regard to starting 3 stations away it is solely a tactial move to avoid handing a win to the next player, as they would be able to play a winning move immediately if stating any closer.

Marylebone, however, is the end of the line entirely.

But I guess that rule has been overlooked so I won't consider it for the future.

I would point out that, while nothing can be done about the leg as a new leg has started, this move is invalid as there is no southbound service into Bordesley. The only service to call at this station is the 13:18 SO Whitlock's End - Kidderminster service.

The ruling is there must be 'two or more different stations that can be reached from it, 'on separate lines'. The general understanding is that the two different stations must be the next stations on the lines, hence why Marylebone can be considered acceptable (Wembley Staduim on the Wycombe line and Harrow-on-the-Hill on the Amersham line) whereas Eastbourne should not be (Hampden Park whether heading towards Lewes or Hastings), nor would Paddington, Euston, Kings Cross, Waterloo, Charing Cross, Cannon Street, Fenchurch Street and Moorgate.

I consider that the following 'terminal stations' (i.e. no through platform) are valid starting places, though I would appreciate Adtrainz confirmation of these: Bere Alston, Littlehampton, Brighton, London Victoria, Marylebone, Liverpool Street, Bourne End, Swansea, Carmarthen, Colchester Town, Lowestoft, Great Yarmouth, Norwich, Stansted Airport, Cromer, Hull, Hatfield, Glossop, Manchester Airport, Southport, Bradford Interchange, Morecambe, Battersby, Inverness and Fort William.
