I don't think there's a service that does Bristol Temple Meads-Yate non-stop (or at least, I can't find one in the timetable)...

Unless anyone else knows better, of course. Having said that, I'm not sure what the correct course of action at this point is, given that we are some considerable distance into a new leg...

That posting did not appear on this current leg, but was the penultimate posting on the previous leg. Is is the case that a posting can only be challenged on a leg currently in progress and not on a previously completed leg.

I apologise as I inadvertantly thought that there was a late Saturday night train that ran direct. Perhaps clagmonster will deduct one point from the winning total of that previously now-completed leg, when he gets round to scoring it.

I've scoured through the timetable as well, and can't find anything that does Bristol TM - Yate either. I think the leg needs to be pulled back to Bristol TM, and all the stations on this current leg get written off.

I had only just sent a PM to clagmonster just before you made this posting referring him to the contents of postings # 51013 and # 51014.

Should we now wait for his adjudication as the quiz-scorer before any decision exterior to that of his was reached.

This current leg started at Stoke-on-Trent on posting # 50984.

Since the rules, specifically 8.ii, quoted below, doesn't make any reference to legs ending, I think that, since we have had Robinson state his suspicion, and me confirm it, we shouldn't need to wait for Clagmonster, given that the rules explicitly stated to go to the last station before the incorrect posting, without giving a different instruction if the leg ended between the incorrect post and the initial call of invalid station.
ii) Another individual states their suspicion, which is then confirmed by another player. Anyone is then welcome to continue the game, again starting from the station before the incorrect submission. Again, the incorrect answer should be crossed out.

Two of the senior contestants, gnolife and Robinson, appear to have found a section of the rules that will cover a situation that this quiz unfortunately finds itself. Since these two contestants are from the panel of four who can make adjudications, clagmonster and Buttsy being the other two, since I no longer adjudicate because of my post-stroke situation, I make this posting in answer to very recent queries.

Are we going to pick up from where we left off on the subsequent leg?

I think that, for the sake of keeping things simple, that leg that started at Stoke should be completely written off.

We'll start off where the aborted leg ended up: Gainsborough Lea Road

I give up with this game. I have gone from winning the last leg to getting no points at all, once a leg has finished I believe that should be it.

I'm sorry you feel that way, it will be a shame to lose you from this game. It is unfortunate that it took a long time for the invalid move to be spotted, though the rules seem to allow for such a scenario.

8. IN THE EVENT OF A WRONG ANSWER:

If a submission to the quiz is incorrect, but there have been no further posts, the author may edit their post, so long as the original is shown as crossed out. After striking through an incorrect entry, you must use reply rather than edit to post your new entry. This aims to prevent confusion to allow for smooth proceedings.

If there have been further posts, either of two circumstances should occur;
i) The author states their position, thus making any posts after the original superfluous. The original incorrect answer should be crossed out. The game is then continued by a different individual, starting from the station before the incorrect submission.
ii) Another individual states their suspicion, which is then confirmed by another player. Anyone is then welcome to continue the game, again starting from the station before the incorrect submission. Again, the incorrect answer should be crossed out.

When Clagmonster reviews the situation, the situation may change.

As well as sending the PM to clagmonster that I referred to earlier, I have also sent a PM to adtrainz who wrote this quiz (as it was I and another forum member who helped him to set up this existing quiz from a "beta" effort that was called Sugar Loaf) and the rules that appertain to it, especially as it is not specifically stated in the current rules about a challenge to a completed leg, from which a new leg or legs have subsequently followed on from.

We are only ten days away from the second anniversary of the quiz commencement and indeed, this sudden contretemps has cast a shadow over matters.

I appeal to Trainfan344 not to carry out his stated intention. He was in seventh place with 1,343 points on the last published September 2013 points winner league table and indeed, I totally understand his frustration at being told that he had lost the large number of points that he had won from the leg that was queried. He had done nothing wrong whatsoever.

I speak as the highest poster upon this quiz, having been with it since inception, and having made no less than 11,419 of the 51,030 postings that have been made on it so far.
