Have you thought about a doing yearly rolling ranking system like used in quite a few sports? Basically keep a total of points accrued for each person over the last 12 months and update after each leg.

Thanks for the suggestion. I may start doing that, although it will take a bit of delving into the archives. Rather than updating after each leg, I will probably publish it with the monthly league table, just to make the workload a bit easier.
