The sleeper from Fort William stops at Edinburgh and Preston. It is set down only at Edinburgh but I can't find anything in the rules saying that it's not allowed as if you were already on the train when it stopped at Edinburgh, the next station would be Preston.

Hang on! I've just scoured the rules myself, and found this
“These routes and services must be valid (i.e on the timetable) at the time of posting.”

Given that we've not come from Westerton, the fact that the Fort Bill sleeper does not pick up at Edinburgh Waverley means that boarding it there is not a valid move, therefore we cannot take it to Preston.

It is a valid route and service. The above rule would prevent a move to or from Dunrobin Castle in the Winter as no trains stop there but in this case the train in question makes stops at both Edinburgh and Preston.

In this case, we can't be on the service in question because we've come from Haymarket.
The rules do not clearly say you have to take into account the specific service used by the previous post. It is possible to be on a train stopped at Edinburgh station where the next station is Preston.

Also see http://www.railforums.co.uk/showthread.php?t=54545&page=1081 there is a prescedent for alighting at pick-up only stations.

Is any adjudication required with regards Scottish sleepers and Waverley. If so, I'll take a look.
