For now, we must enforce the rules as currently stated in the opening point, so I don't see any reason not to apply the deduction to myself in this case. However, I agree with the principle of your point, and am quite happy to look into options as a deputy. If any members of the quiz have any opinions on this rule:
"6. End of the Line: When at the 3rd station from an end point, if the 2nd station is not posted within 3 hours, then 20 points are taken from the leg total. If no posts are received over 6 hours, another 20 points are taken from the leg total."
in particular its implications in the early hours, could you please PM either myself or Adtrainz.

Had the move from Guide Bridge to Fairfield not had been made to win that last leg, and alternative postings of either Hyde North or Flowery Field had been made, the matter of the points deduction would not have occurred, as neither of these two railway stations are either the third or the second railway stations from the end of a quiz leg in the positions where they are situated and noting the number of available railway stations still to be nominated in an onwards progression from both these railway stations.

I am not entirely sure of whether the rules make it clear, or whether there is a precedent in this game, for enforcing the "End of the Line" penalty when an end point was avoidable.

I've got a question concernin this end of line rule. If a leg scores only 6 - 7 stations, but there's a massive lul in posting (let's say the leg went Kidsgrove - Longport - Stoke - Stone - Stafford - 24 hour gap in posting - Crewe - Alsager for example), would the 'winner' get docked 33 points?

A point of observation only...not a posting of a station name

It is interesting to note that the last four postings on this quiz have been from the four top point scoring members on the "July" league table. I think that gnolife has just made a very valid point, as if a member coming to this quiz when few points have been amassed, noting that a certain time display had elapsed near to an end of a leg, would just not bother to go for the win if it meant being deducted points from the points league table that had already been gained, if it meant that by claiming a win with a "minus 33" score rating on that leg. Perhaps this matter of "leg winners" suffering a points deduction from their overall gained total quiz score could also be a matter for an entry in the rules section, once a decision on such a detrimental matter has been reached.
