There are many that stop at Stalybridge having run through Guide Bridge, so I thought it might not be a parly as both stations are in regular use and the line connecting the 2 has a regular service on it.

The answer is no Paul, I've just done a search on National Rail and all other times shows you have to change at MANCHESTER PICCADILLY.

The reason I say this is that Water Orton - Wilncote is only a long wait rather than a parly and has a similar situation in that only 1 train a day does the required stops.

I'm sure Clagmonster knows the actual situation and scores it appropriately.

I was just commenting that it might not be seen as a parly, but as a long wait. It depends on the definition of parly. We class Addlestone - Byfleet as a parly, even though it has an hourly service on Sundays. My understanding of a parly service is it is run to keep the line or station open so that it does not have to go through the closure procedure. Removal of the Stockport - Stalybridge service, in my view, would not cause Guide Bridge or Stalybridge stations to close, nor the line connecting the two, hence why I think it is more likely to be a long wait. Using my example, the withdrawal of the service between Water Orton and Wilncote will not cause any line or station to close, so a long wait.

There are no services calling at Guide Bridge and Stalybridge except for the service you mention.

The Stockport to Stalybridge service is a parliamentary service as it runs at the minimum frequency (once per week) in order to avoid the closure of intermediate stations between Stockport & Guide Bridge (exclusive). While it does not have to continue to Stalybridge, it absolutely makes sense to do so for numerous reasons. Therefore you could say that Guide Bridge to Stalybridge has no direct service with the exception of the parliamentary service but it does have many journey opportunities via Manchester.

I will let the Quizmasters do any adjudicating they need to do in respect of the game, however...

What is or isn't a Parliamentary service is ultimately at the discretion of the scorer, as there isn't a definitive list anywhere.

I've had a look at the scoring sheet, and clagmonster has typically given Stalybridge to Guide Bridge as a long wait - I think because there are lots of trains running along the route, it's just that no others stop at both stations.

I can see the argument that it might be a parliamentary though. The section from Stockport to Stalybridge certainly is, and is scored as such.
