I've realised that unless a random station generator puts it up as a starter and someone goes for the quick 'kill', this game will never visit Llandudno, Deganwy, Bicester Town, Islip, Lymington Town & Pier, Borth, Aberystwth, Enfield Town, Bush Hill Park, Alvechurch, Redditch, Sundridge Park & Bromley North as tactically it's giving the game to someone else.
There may be others I haven't thought of...

A typical commuter-belt part of north-west England
1. How to play.....At the start of a game, the OP(at the very beginning or if necessary) or the player who previously ended a leg of the journey, will choose a starting station (unless the player has called an ¡§open floor¡¨, in which any player can choose a starting station) that adheres to the following criteria:

„« It is on NR rails (or Merseyrail)
„« It is not just a terminal station.
„« It is not the same station as the one which ended the previous leg.

The matter of terminal stations is covered in this extract from Rule 1 of the quiz rules.

I was trying to kill two birds with one stone. The stations on the list that aren't terminal stations would not get played as an opener as they lead immediately to a win for the next player (as you did with the Barrhill start, winning with Stranraer Harbour) and therefore the terminal stations that follow them would not be played either. Unless you're using clagmonster's 'random station generator', no sensible player would start a game where the next move is a win, nor would the go down a route which they know they wouldn't stand a chance of winning down. Hope I've made myself a bit clearer now. :)

In response to the points raised above, I will state that I do not use a random station generator but do have a systematic method of choosing stations that can result in legs with just a start and end station.

My apologies for mis-understanding how you chose your starting stations.
