In this case, as there were more than 5 hours between Kingswood and Tadworth being posted, rule 6 states that 20 points are deducted from the leg total. Therefore, you may very well have just become the first person to actually lose points for winning a leg, as every time I can recall this coming into play previously there have been more than 20 stations in the leg.

Harsh to lose points for winning.

If I hadn't played (not fully understanding the potential disbenefit of playing) I could see that the game would have ground to a halt as I doubt any regular player would have played...

Indeed, sadly that is the rules. I suppose it might be worth looking into rewriting this slightly so that, if the leg has less stations than the penalty, then the score received is zero rather than negative. What do others think on this idea?

6. End of the Line: When at the 3rd station from an end point, if the 2nd station is not posted within 3 hours, then 20 points are taken from the leg total. If no posts are received over 6 hours, another 20 points are taken from the leg total....
It is not possible to have negative points, so if this occurs the value will default to zero.

A cursory look at rule 6 plus a later rule amendment extract is shown above which means that zero is a default score as it is not possible to have a negative point award for winning a leg. If you recall, this was one of the final rule amendments to be made...and officially amended in the very first posting of this quiz.

Buttsy therefore should not be penalised for winning that last leg.

Why is it that at time when I awake from a long sleep, there are crisis points on one quiz or another on the Quiz Forum.

I take it the suggestion I made at the time to make an exception for wins where no alternative move was possible was not implemented...

The long-waits you have indicated are parly bonuses, except Shipton which is a long-wait.

Kingham

EDIT: Shipton has 3tpd in the down direction so it isn't a bonus at all.
