Could it be Harrogate?
No....too far North now and Harrogate no longer has its junctions - although not a million miles away.

The only two further clues that I can think of would give it away immediately....so hear goes:

Clue no. 7: This station - and the junctions either side of it - were the venue for a radical experimental signalling system in the early 1930s.

Winchester ?
The nearest cathedral cities are at least 10-12 miles away.

Sutton Parkway

No, but there’s another station which shares part of that name a few miles away.

Caledonian Road and Barnsbury?

We’re roughly equidistant from Caledonian Road and Caledonia!

Clue 2: This station is not electrified, although EMUs are occasionally seen here.

D1630 is heading in the right direction but would still be three changes away by service trains, by my reckoning.

Clue 4 - The passenger service through this station serves two different nations of the UK and has a terminus in each one. Although there’s no scheduled freight through the station at the moment, in days gone by the line was noted for some of the last workings of steam-hauled heavy freight.
