Correct.

Just to explain the clues that may require explanation:
The 77s (and 76s, but they were less common on passenger work) were built at Gorton. Manchester-Sheffield services used to pass through Gorton on their way from Manchester London Road to the Woodhead line and Sheffield Victoria. Nowadays, when Stockport is shut, such Intercity services are sometimes diverted via Gorton (sometimes via Reddish North instead).
North Transpennine trains, which formerly ran via Manchester Victoria, now pass Gorton on their way to/from Piccadilly.

Indeed it was. I recall the first TPE timetables after the split from RRNE even stated as such on the front. Part of the franchise spec was that it was to be an Intercity franchise, which would perhaps have gone better had Arriva's proposal to order 180s gone through.
