I don't remember forfeiting the floor. .. I'd lost connection while my bus crawled through the depths of rural Cheshire.

Heald Green?

Heald Green has 2 tocs booked to pass, and a 3rd which uses it as a diversionary route.

Check posting 9595 where I said Denton before you posted the answer on 9596, hence I assumed I had the floor for getting the right answer.

I think I must have missed it because it came through after I'd typed the answer just before my internet went.

Hazel Grove.

No worries :)

4: This station has through services to London and 2 other cities, though there is only 1 service M-F to one of those cities.

Peterborough?

Peterbrough has through services to the cities of Ely, Norwich, Cambridge, Birmingham, York, Leeds, Leicester, Newcastle and Edinburgh to my knowledge (though I expect someone to tell me that there are no services to at least one of these). :)

I have a nasty suspicion I know where it is, so I'm going to have to ask the obvious: Is your definition of "City" based on the formal definition and therefore restricted to those found here? If yes, my idea is out the window (as I would hope); if no, there are two destinations served from this station that are often mistaken for cities - one of which meets the criteria for the occasional service.

The 2 cities are chartered as such and appear in the list you link to.

Well that's my idea out the window  I was thinking possibly Winnersh, which would count Reading and Guildford (the latter being one service per day).

Instead, I shall call Warwick. There are regular services to London and Birmingham, with Chiltern and (less often) London Midland serving the station and Crosscountry passing through. But there is also a limited Chiltern service to Oxford.

Clue 2: This station has at least one character in its name that is not a letter. (Spaces are counted as characters and therefore something like Thorpe Bay [the real Twerp for anyone who doesn't know] would be a valid response to this clue.)

Speaking of which...

Nice try

Aww. My cricket pun (for Buttsy) is out the window now...

I was going to compliment him on doing a better job of bowling to me than the team he played against over the weekend, but apparently the bowler alternating Overs with him has stolen his thunder.

And that's why I should *never* do c2c stations.

- although, that said, there's plenty of choice still out there...
