I believe there are some services from Moorgate in the shoulder peaks which terminate before going on to Hornsey. There certainly used to be, I'll look for an example.

It seems that after the morning peak they are ecs all the way from Moorgate these days, however these days there is a 22:21 Moorgate-Finsbury Park which goes ecs onto Hornsey.
