Crikey, I presumed there would be loads of Cross Country services direct to Edinburgh.

This station is south of Thurso.

I think it might be time to insist on more reasonable first clues.

If you want to do that, may it be an idea to put in the rules a minimum number of stations to be ruled out by clue 1. Remember though, people, including you I think, have got 15 points from these clues.

That is certainly something to consider. When I managed the perfect 15, it was in response to "four platforms", as opposed to "south of Thurso"...

That may be true, but only because a total stab in the dark came good (remember the Gravesend brick in 'Guess the Station'?). Statistically people would have virtually identical odds if you didn't bother to give your first clue and they just went straight in with their first answer as soon as it became your turn. Alternatively you could give your first clue every time as 'this station has tracks in it'. I don't think it's necessary to insist on a certain number of stations being ruled out, simply that the clue is in some way meaningful. Absurd first clues just slow the game down unnecessarily.
