I'm sorry all. Problems have come up at home and I'm not going to be able to finish the round. The answer I was after was York.

Uttoxeter?

I had Uttoxeter last time ! Interestingly most of the clues are going to be exactly the same !

Clue 3 :
this station was formerly a junction with 4 platforms and it's name used to reflect this fact. It cased being a junction for passengers in 1959, though was still used for freight until the late 60s

The rules don't say that I can't lose points for two different reasons, so I would say I'm on -(3 plus whatever I lose for a impossible solution to a clue). This is a little like QI.

By the way Ivo, if you would like a hand scoring, let me know.

I'm not sure whether I'm allowed. I've made a guess for this clue, but it was invalid.

Bordesley?

Not Bordesley, but I understand your thinking. Contary to appearances, Bordesley was never a junction.

Will give clue 5 in about 10 mins if no more replies received.

-------------------------------

Extra clue - so far nobody has been within 50 miles of the right answer - Uttoxeter was nearest (I think)

Clue 5 : just beyond the next station to the east of this one there is a famous rail feature which is (allegedly) unique in this country

I suspect, based on distance from Uttoxeter, that the unique rail feature is the Newark flat crossing. Therefore, the answer must be Rolleston.

Rolleston is correct.
[used to be a junction for Southwell (and Mansfield pre 1930) ]
[adjacant to Southwell race course]
