£2.60 for half a pint of Doombar. I'm sorry, but this is Manchester, not Mayfair.
I realise that the place is run by SSP - a bunch of clueless wonders based in Switzerland who wouldn't know London from Looe. Perhaps they ought to stick to the Cuckoo clocks.

Don't ever go to Temple Bar in Dublin then. Beer prices in the Pubs their are outrageous! €7.60 for a pint of plain, €8.00+ for lager. My local in the suburbs charges €4.80 for a pint of plain.

That is abysmal, although £4.70 is what they apparently would have charged me for a pint of Doombar at Victoria. That's considerably less than two halves at £2.60 (isn't there supposed to be a law against discounting by volume now ?).

Pints always seem to be more expensive on Station Property than nearby pubs. Crewe, Paddington and Reading have seen my custom in the recent past, but a short stroll from any of those stations see's pubs which charge far less. Gave up drinking on Irish Ferries as they seem to be heading towards Temple Bar prices, and the Guinness is awful!

That sounds like another case of a company not knowing/catering for their customer base (I'm assuming that Irish Ferries passengers aren't primarily trendies off to Temple Bar for a stag weekend).

No, or chains like Weatherspoons couldn't get away with offers such as "Double up for £1"

I went in there once just after the refurb a couple of years ago. I can't remember what beer it was I had but it was something very basic and bland and that was £2.50 for a half pint.
I agree with your comments about SSP.

If you are willing to pay it, than do not complain. Local beer in the Netherlands is about 8,10 euro per liter in a bar. In the supermarket Heineken 1/2 pint bottles * 24 bottles is about 17 euro. Cheapest beer is at 50 eurocent a pint (half liter).

I think "willing" to pay is too strong a term. I was more of a captive audience changing trains. Certainly half a pint should be no more than half the cost of a pint.

Beer in the bars in the Netherlands didn't strike me as being particularly outrageously priced when I was there this year.

Supermarket prices v. Hostelry prices is a big factor in so many pubs having closed over the last decade and a half. People may blame the smoking ban but that's just one relatively small factor. Certainly less so than the supermarket price-gouging and the counter-productive policies of the "PubCo"s.

I seem to recall a pic posted on here one of some Green King brew (IPA or Abbot) at about £2.50 a half just after the refurb. Both boring beers but (like Doom Bar) if you can find somewhere that really knows how to keep it then it can be surprisingly good.

Had a look at the Beer Houses in Edinburgh Waverley and Glasgow Central the other week and both had beers over the £2.50/half mark. In Edinburgh I didn't try any knowing that Wetherspoons' The Booking Office was less than a minute away where I found most real ales were £3.19/pint or less (great pint of Redcastle Red Lady). Also gave it a miss in Glasgow having just had a whole pint of Purple Moose's Dark Side of The Moose for £2.59 in The Crystal Palace 'Spoons about 2 minutes from the Glasgow Central Beer House. (I had it as part of the burger and pint deal, but that was the standalone price.)

Bargain beer of that trip was a pint of Kelburn Carte Blanche for £1.79 in the Bobbing John 'Spoons in Alloa which turned out to be the dearest pint of real ale they had. The only downside was having to be in Alloa.

I remember seeing that - I don't think I tried it because they always had the Copper Dragon Golden Pippin at the time.

Sounds like an appropriate name to me... and I wouldn't object to an economical beer being fairly weak, especially if it was a hot day or I had a long evening ahead of me!

The Carte Blanche would have been £1.29 had I had any tokens left but this was the end of September and the new tokens were not valid until the first of October! (Although I have it on pretty good authority that most 'Spoons don't check the date on the vouchers so it doesn't matter whether they've expired or are not valid yet so I may have been lucky if I'd remembered to take them.)
