Well all i can say is it was one hellfire tour,

i got up at 0350 and arrived in to BHM at 0520, as we left BHM there was pleanty of thrash, some hours later we pulled into Bristol TM where we had a nice long stay where we could fot the Growlers before heading off to our next long stop at Exeter where 2 guys missed the train as they were too late getting back on.

As we were at Plymouth there was an incident where somone ran across the tracks onto our train as Plymouth was not a pick up point (he was charged by the BTP on the rtn)

Penzance was epic where me and my mate held up a flag saying English Electric on it infrount of the locos (this got lots of photos from other people :D) and the Mazey Day parades were cool, odd but cool.

on the way back there was lots of thrash and a few jolts here and there but all was ok and there was more photos taken along the way.

as we arrived at Plymouth a BTP officer got on the train because of the events that happend on the way down, as we left there was a few brake problems and a few more jolts.

As we headed for Likey we got up to some speed, i had my head out of the window filming, my camera broke which annoyed me a bit.

At the end of the day it was one hell of a Railtour and i cant wait till the next one.

Good Job Spitfire, look forward to the next one!

Presumably you decided to ignore the instructions in the tour brochure? They are there for a reason...

In fairness, it's probably not the greatest idea to have mentioned your misfortune on here - the last thing we need is the H&S bigots bringing in window bars.......

It was an enjoyable day out, was stuck in the very back coach all the way down, but then being right at the front for the return run certainly made up for that, particularly up the Lickey <D

Thanks Spitfire for a great day out!

Well said there defiantly is some power mad stewards as of late on these tours to be honest if you get hurt so be it a managed to get bush whacked on the branch to avonmouth.
As long as you don't get yourself killed it's all in the spirit of good fun but shame bout the camera 37401.

Thing is Scott, the likes of Pathfinder and Spitfire know they are being watched by NR etc so although you could argue the stewards are being harsh, it's a case of having to be in order for those tours to be allowed to run. It's just the way it is whether we like it or not:(

To be honest I do agree on that note and I always go onto a tour with the idea in mind that the second I set foot on a tour if they say jump I reply "how high?" as being booted off isn't a finacial option for me and I do like my arms and legs :D

When you hear the likes of '37401' on here telling us how he whacked his head/face and was bleeding I don't think there is any argument with what the stewards are doing really. Personally i have never had a problem on Spitfire, the stewards know what is sensible and what is not and in my experience only ask people to stop what is not sensible, certainly never seen any being power mad anyway....

There are examples of one or two who rather than being power mad I would call a little over Protective as for instance they seem to tell you to move away from windows even if you are waiting for the loo.
But as is being saif they have a job to do and for good reason as demonstrated by 37401.

People that complain about heads-out get on my nerves! What harm does it do to anyone? None at all. (Well, apart from 37401, but he should have stuck his head out of the right hand side of the train instead!). If you have your head out and bring it back in as a train goes past, what's the problem? Some people enjoy tours for the journey itself (and mileage etc), others prefer them for the traction and noise. If you are one of the latter, how can you hear the noise without having your head out? How can a tour be advertised as an 'enthusiast tour', when people are restricted from enjoying it as an enthusiast because jobsworths have got nothing better to do?
I've been told once or twice for flailing and doing heads-out on a Pathfinder tour. Hence, I haven’t been on a tour with them since!

People need to get a life and stop moaning about everything under the sun!

PS: Why when I see pictures of tours these days are there very few people flailing and doing heads-out? Why have people stopped doing it?

PS II: Although I can fully understand that stewards are there to protect the public and prevent accidents from occurring, if 37401 wants to stick his head into a load of bushes at high speed then he can do - it's his head!

Wow, how on Earth have you managed to miss all the furore over this. NR do not want any flailing or bellowing because it is, in their opinion, not nice for the everyday railway customer to get bellowed at. Spitfire operate the trains under WCRC safety case and as such could end up getting West Coast in a lot of trouble.

LOL I've missed something then? I must have been out that day! :p

Effectively you are saying that the TOCs/FOCs are subject to punishment should they be seen to be allowing or condoning any kind of flailing/bellowing etc? I didn't realise this was the case. Good job I haven't done any recently as I wouldn't have known!

Cheers for that. :)

But it's the company's liability if something goes wrong.

I regulary have part of my head out of the door windows of the hsts when ever i go to london etc, i have even had my head out at 04:10 in the morning when i was on the sleeper from Taunton to London back in february which some of u might remeber.

i doo see a lot of people with their heads out of the windows when they are on preserved railways and was even a lot when tornado arrived at cardiff a few weeks ago, so as long as they dont have most of their body out of the window and arent acting like idiots then i dont see any problems.

As far as heads out is concerned it isn't an illegal act as a window is ment to be opened and people can get some fresh air but when people start acting stupid and eventually get hurt they are always quick to blame others such as the tour company for allowing them to do so.
So the TOC etc must cover their own backs by not allowing people to hang out of windows like crazed baboons (no reference to anyone on this forum).
I admit it is a great experience and a good way to film the event unfolding as you travel across the country but when arms stick out and bellowing occurs people need a branch or two to either knock some sense into them or to knock them out completly.

Sorry to be abrupt but it's one of those subjects.

And someone else has to clean up and deal with the paperwork for the persons stupidity if someone gets decapitated.

And I have to say Richard, it's pretty stupid that you don't want to travel with PF anymore because they tell you what they have to. PF don't mind heads out but Flailing has been banned. I wouldn't have a go about people moaning and you start yourself.

People are allowed to do what ever they like, if Rich does not want to travel with PF because he cant flail thats his choice, it pretty stupid that you exist on this forum but i dont moan about it

If the reason someone won't travel on a PF tour is because they cannot flail then I hope they will be boycotting all operators then as that is now the case on all operators trains....

And if these people insist on flailing, the operators are probably glad not to have them on board.
