Saw this tour advertised ages ago sounds hellfire and ill be on this one 2x DRS class 37`s along the Dawlish coast anyone

My girlfreind has suggested that i go on this railtour as a 21st birthday treat, so i might do although i means an early morning start from Bridgend to Bristol Temple Meads.

i have to admit this is the very first railtour i have ever been on so it should be a new experience


is anyone else planning on traveling on this?

your first railtour will be a great new experence indeed, my first tour was with spitfire too "The Fellsman chopper" i love every moment. Spitfire proved outstanding value for money

yeah you`ll love it as ive said Spitfire are a great company and the food (provided by Gravy train) if very nice, i had the first serving on the fellsman chopper so i had it on a plate and i had double portion hehe

Hi , Pontyclun Pacer here, i too would hope to do this tour as i've been on 2 Spitfire tours & they are well run & also the stewards are helpful as well, hope this tour dosen't have to many so called enthusiasts putting half their bodies out of the train whilst it heads for Cornwall or those selfish individuals who consume too much beer or lager & end up spoiling the day for all those that have booked as it gives our hobby a bad name.

Yeah theres bound to be a few but dont worry Jo Ford`ll sort em out, in other words Kick em off, ill admit i like to stick my cam out every now and then but i dont go mad with my body going out full flailage, on the fellsman chopper it was coach A that had all the drunks in unfortunatly the same place as the little shop they set up.

But that's the coach A environment, That's what Coach A is like on a tour. If you don't like it, there is much more mellow coaches to choose from. I personally love Coach A, it's a great atmosphere!

I think it's the same on diesel galas. The beer coach is always a riot! Good fun though.

Behaviour in the front coach on Saturday just gone was very good, the coach provided for A was a very nice ex Kingfihser rake Mk2 in good condition apart from lack of lights and it was for a front railtour coach still in a good condition at the end of the tour.

Our website has been updated today with 'off train' options whilst in Cornwall, which are Bodmin Parkway for 37142 on the diesel turn on the B&WR. Par for the Eden Project (inclusive of travel and entry) and Penzance for a pleasure flight around Mounts Bay in a British International S61N helicopter.
Alternatively remain in Penzance for the Mazey Day celebrations.

This train is currently at 80% capacity and please remember that the 'Early Bird' fares cease on Saturday from when Full fares apply.

I wonder if the lights in that coach have worked at all since they packed up last August? I noticed the 'Out of Order' sticker I put on the toilet door last year was still present. :?

They did fire up on the outward at one point but it was not for long. I doubt they have done much work as Mr Palmer informed me the LED lights stuck on the roof down the coach which were activated in the Birmingham area were the lights that he purchased in Edinburgh on his tour last year!

And the seat number labels were ones I wrote out for his tour, as they were previously numbered 1-64. I hope noone was booked in seats 1 & 2 back as they don't exist! The lights sound just as they were then, when they worked roughly from Carnforth to Huddersfield on the ECS.

Oh right, I know he had said that emergency lights had been needed on his tour, i'm sure he said that they were the ones, may have been me getting the wrong end of the stick and if that is the case i'm sorry for getting mixed up there. Anyway good job you were prepared and had them with you, cheers again, was a top day!

im not going on it but i would like to get a few shots of it taking off, When and Where will it take off and is it within decent walking distance of Penzance?

Im really exited about this tour will be hellfire, hope we get the WCRC Mk1`s I prefer them to the Rail-Blue stock that other companies are putting on, did 37`s haul Virgin Mk3`s back in the day noooooooo i dont think so, i fell that im the only one that likes the Mk1`s (after reading the fellsman chopper thread again) but i think they give the tour a better feeling than other Stock

Probably because 37s were never booked to haul Virgin services apart from perhaps the odd occasion when they may have been summoned to rescue one, but I have no gen on the exact rescues.

Best bet would be to look back to Summer 1998 when the Virgin 47s were dropping dead like flies due to the wrong type of oil being used and basically anything and everything was being used to cover the service.

You put some extra LEDs up, but there were two at the far extremity of the coach that were mine from last year - I even suggested to Jo in the morning that she could buy 3 AAA batteries and use my lights if needs be
