The last public bus into town left a couple of hours ago; since we cannot use taxis, we look for another flight.
We could fly back to New York JFK, but that's a bit unimaginative. Not much less unimaginative is our choice of next move .....

United Airlines 1906 departing 0125 Saturday, arriving Newark, NJ (EWR) at 0550 Saturday morning.

To leave the airport, we have to take the AirTrain. Allowing half an hour to get through immigration in Terminal C, we can hop on board one of the small carriages at 06:23, which takes us to Newark Liberty International Airport Station at 06:32 on Saturday morning.

(If we're being strict, we should have made a similar move to get from Terminal 1 to Terminal 4 at JFK).

We're at the junction station for the 5 minute shuttle train to Princeton. You can tell it's a university town because no-one is up this early on a Saturday morning, and the shuttles don't start running until 0930.

We re-trace our steps on NJ Transit train 7816 from Princeton Jn. at 0810, arriving Secaucus Junction at 0918 Saturday morning.

Where's Teller, then?

We then take to the underground, boarding the 0944 2 train to 149 St - Grand Concourse, arriving there at 1003 Saturday morning.

We head North from the grim Penn Station on NorthEast Regional's 162 10:00 train towards Boston. We alight at New London, CT at 12:32 on Saturday afternoon.
--- old post above --- --- new post below ---
We head back Southbound on the busy Lexington Avenue line, a line that carries more passengers per day than the entire Washington Metro!

It's a Southbound 5 train that conveys us back through Manhattan and into Brooklyn at 10:15. We arrive at the busy interchange at Atlantic Avenue/Barclays Center, Brooklyn at 10:51 on Saturday morning.

While on the train, we see that entry to the Coney Island Boardwalk is half-price for one day only. In a spur-of-the-moment decision, we board the next train to the area.
That next train happens to be the 1059 Q train, arriving at Coney Island - Stillwell Av at 1131 Saturday morning.

Here, we can change to the E Train, and head back to Manhattan on the 13:50 World Trade Center bound train. The service runs limited stop and takes us to Lexington Avenue 51st Street Station, arriving at 14:00 on Saturday afternoon.

We're in the neighbourhood of my favourite hate preacher, Pastor Manning. As entertaining as he is, we decide to get as far away as we can and head to the Subway again to catch a Southbound 2 train at 15:07, which runs express to Times Square 42nd Street Station. We arrive at 15:21 on Saturday afternoon.

We use the underground pedestrian connection to the 8th Ave exit and enter the Port Authority Bus Terminal. Here we board a Greyhound coach leaving at 1600 to Philadelphia, PA (Greyhound bus station at N 10th St / Filbert St), arriving at 1800 Saturday evening.

Here here, Me123. I remember doing the civil rights era in history at school and two men taught to us as if they were cut from the same cloth. Mr Martin Luther King and Malcolm X. It was only when a few years after leaving school that in a moment of boredom I looked up Malcolm X as I was intrigued by the name. Only then did I learn the truth. It still sticks in my throat that the education system in this country could compare Malcolm X to Martin Luther King. It is an insult to that great man.

Anyhow back to the game. Thanks SpringsBranch for getting us out of NYC. I was looking at the Greyhound website and it drives me crackers. Happy to tell me the price of a ticket but not the time of the bus!

We can now make inroads into Philadelphia's many transport possibility's.
Walking to the nearby recently renamed Jefferson Station we board one of SEPTA's Manayunk/Norristown branch trains at 1836 and travel to Norristown T.C arriving at 1913 on Saturday evening

We decide to take in this large station and watch the comings and goings for an hour before...

Pulling out of the station aboard train 4697 the 2340 New Jersey Transit service to Atlantic City rail terminal. We arrive at 0118 in the early hours of Sunday morning.

We feel like tearing spacetime to shreds, so we decide to have both versions of ourselves meet at the same place at the same time. Our UK version is at London Heathrow, so we head to the nearest airport. It's a short wait in the environs of Baltimore for the Maryland Transport Administration 17 bus to AIRPORT TERMINAL GARAGE eb*, departing at 0752 and arriving at 0818 Monday morning.

Google Maps

*Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport is the nearest major landmark

Our plan to meet ourselves is foiled, as our parallel selves have moved away from the opening in the space-time continuum onto St Neots.

It seems futile to head to Heathrow now, so instead we stick to US soil and head to the other side of the terminal (0.4 mi) where we can board a light rail service. At 08:40, we board the Maryland Transit Administration light rail service to its terminus at Hunt Valley. We arrive at 10:00 on Monday morning.

Have we lost a day between Posts #743 & 744? We arrived from Atlantic City at 0710 Sunday morning, then it's suddenly Monday morning.

The route 17 bus does appear to run on Sunday mornings at the times quoted by Das Lunatic, but the Light Rail to Hunt Valley does not start service until 1030-1100 on Sundays.

So I'd propose we are still at BWI Marshall Airport at 0818 Sunday morning.

--- old post above --- --- new post below ---

BWI Airport operates a free shuttle bus which runs every 6 minutes, even on Sunday morning.

We take the 0824 departure, arriving at BWI Amtrak/MARC Rail Station at 0836 Sunday morning.

I shall take us on what I believe is our first ride on the Washington Metro.

Allowing a little longer then the normal five minutes due to the sheer size of this busy station, we reach the underground platform. Only one line available however so with eyes on somewhere else that will give more optioins...

We leave at 0941 on board the Red line and alight at Gallery Place\Chinatown at 0945 on Sunday morning

Five minutes is more than manageable - made that very connection myself last year.

We transfer here to head downstairs and board the 09:55 Yellow line service heading Southbound and into the state of Virginia. We arrive at Pentagon station at 10:03 on Sunday morning.

Source: http://www.wmata.com - note the Yellow line this weekend has engineering works restricting service frequency - I've used next weekend in keeping with the rules.
