Just to keep everything in perspective folks

Another poster on here, awaiting Bedford, in the TP same length of time as the rest of us, rang for an update and was told Bedford is on the backburner due to south of London taking priority.

He gave up hope of hearing anything for this year.

A few weeks later, he got the call offering Hitchin. This time, he was told that all those waiting for Bedford will be considered for other, nearby depots.

So dont give up hope chaps.

Very true, I'm sure we will all be needed eventually!

I got the call this morning. Start date of 10 October 2016 at Three Bridges.

Didn't even let her finish the sentence before saying "yes".

Best of luck to everyone else waiting for Three Bridges, hope you get a call also.

What a lovely way to start a Tuesday! Congrats!

I wonder where the Bedford folk will be placed with all these new surrounding 'depots' being opened.

Probably nowhere if like me you live north of Bedford and not really within commuting distance of depots further south.

Maybe Cambridge....whenever the courses there start rolling.

Cambridge is 1hr 15 away from me, Luton is 1 hr 8.

Not expecting a call any time soon offering me an alternative and tbh, if they did, I really don't think I would want to add an extra two plus hours to my day just for the commute.

Is that commute by car or train?

By car (according to my Satnav which is usually very accurate with regards to arrival times.
I'm sure the train journey from Wellingborough (my nearest station) to Luton can be done in about half an hour but then I still have a 20 min commute to the station in the first place, time spent waiting for a train, time spent faffing with connections if going via Bedford, which all adds up is getting close if not over to the limit.

But all this is moot anyway - not even had a medical yet. As Claire said to me what feels like aeons ago now, there are quite a few in the queue ahead of you.

Just spoke to Trudy and asked about updates regarding the Hitchin area, and was told as per another poster, no course dates for that area untill at least next year.

Do GTR require all trainees to be trained up and ready prior to their intense 'core' timetable commencing?

It had a piece about talks between Thameslink and a Hertfordshire borough in relation to the delays and lack of trains etc. Nothing we don't already know.

Relax!!

You'll find that there's plenty of london based railway staff living in Wellingborough. Central London depots should be fine, but you'd be pushing it to go South of the river. You'll qualify for a Priv rate season ticket (speak to your HR contact).

It's been quite on here for a while. I take it that's because everyone has been given start dates or have started already?!

I'm still waiting, nothing for the Cambridge recruitment yet either from what I know anyway.

Seems like they are concentrating further south at the moment.

Lots of Bedford drivers live in the wellingborough/kettering/corby area. Some even come from Northampton, market Harborough and even Peterborough.

Hi all

First post so i'll give you a quick run down of my GTR story so far.

Initially applied for Thameslink Trainee train driver, Three Bridges, back in Dec last year. Passed my assessment in Feb with, i was told, the highest score of the day. As such was told i would be contacted for an interview in approx 3 weeks !
Surprise surprise months passed by with i think one 'be patient' Email in the meantime.
I then received a call asking would i be interested in Brighton or London Bridge/Victoria ? Replied London yes but not really interested in Brighton.
More months passed until a few days ago i receive an Email inviting me to an interview at Brighton ??

Anybody else had a similar journey so far ?
