but they are not actually doing anything with them.
The system is not linked up from start to finish. It is all well and good having applications and assessments but when you have no courses booked then you get to a situation like this where you start creating a "talent pool"
The next step is not very flexible and can only be done in a finite amount of time. Everything is limited by how many training schools and trainers you have and the number of courses you can run per year. There are more in the talent pool than able to pass into this step. Even when the training school is running at max capacity its not able to cope with the supply of Trainees. Then of course, you still need to deal with traction courses too.
When everyone is getting through the school you hit another wall where the supply of instructors cannot, and will never, cope with the volume of Trainees coming through. Manual handling takes time and it is 1 to 1. If you get a class of 12 passed out you need 12 Instructors. You may have 3/4 Instructors free but the rest of the Trainees get dumped on the front end turns or sit about doing nothing. At this point you start generating a backlog of Trainees at the depots so the whole process then backs up further.
At last count we have about 8 Trainees sitting about and around 20 coming through the school.
Whilst I understand the frustration of those on here I can assure you that everything is being done to get people through. It's taking 18 months to get a single Trainee through the system. It is not a fast process and unfortunately you guys and gals are on the first rung of a very long ladder.
