Just getting in seems like a huge last hurdle the wait is a killer!

Feeling the same way as you I would not care about waiting months for a di just want to get started now

More than happy to do that but isnt that suggesting that they take into account the distance from out stations?? Im not even sure if they do that....

They're not bothered about distance. We have trainee drivers living/working all over the place. I would suggest that it is an issue when applying but once you're through that hurdle then it doesn't matter. They became aware during my manager's interview that I lived 180 miles away but still gave me the job!

The Brighton trainee I was talking to lives in London but decided to take the Brighton position rather than wait for Blackfriars (so he said). That's alot of extra hours on the day! I wonder if the TOC's are doing this so they can say they have all these extra drivers in training? Who knows? as WCML there's no such thing as logic on the railway!

Well I was living in Sydney when I applied but now I'm only around 2 miles from Bedford. I had my DMI the end of July and I'm awaiting the call for my medical - if it was only distance involved in the decision process I would be near the top of the list but I've had no contact. I'm sure distances are a factor but not a big one more of a consideration for placement.

Claire mentioned to me when I asked her that they will progress trainees as and when they took the assessments - so accordingly the May intake will progress before me.

The list therefore would be handy if month of DMI was listed you could then see whose is waiting for where and when they had there DMI.

This thread is a positive and negative as you read good and bad posts. As everyone before me has wrote the wait isn't a real problem you just want a start.

Seems like the DIs won't have much driving time anytime soon with all these current trainees and future trainees.

Also awaiting Bedford, last had an email around end of January, I wonder if some of the earlier April/may intake are scheduled for courses before August hence people recently being called up for medicals.

Recieved call from Trudy in HR today to book me in for a medical next week,

I applied in sept 2015, had assesment day in oct, DMI in Nov and MMI interview in Jan

So far its been moving along at a steady pace, hope its not about to be a long wait after medical, but Trudy did say in Jan that she wouldn't book my medical until she knew when I would be starting. So maybe she has recieved some new course dates.

My depot will be Cambridge and I live 4 Miles away.

I had the same call and I'm Cambridge depot with a very similar timeline to you, I couldn't do next week for the medical though....should get another date the week after hopefully!

I applied end of 2014 and again in Feb 15, chased them up as I had not heard anything - was invited for May assessment centre but that clashed with my finals so I attended the July assessment centre.

I had my DMI on the 29th July and I'm awaiting the medical call - awaiting Bedford
