I'm just wondering what the relevance was of asking me if I had any holidays booked in the near future, as it clearly had no impact on the progression of my application.

Ha, yeah they asked me that also. I can't complain though as I've only been waiting 1 month so far.

Potentially it could have. It's a perfectly valid question. What if you had holiday booked but then a course came up ? What if you had nothing immediately booked but had one planned for a future date ?

They are doing their job. Why berate them for doing so and working in your favour ?

Yeah. I remember being asked that in June lol. Feels like a millennium ago now.
I was thinking of contacting them, however after reading that people have been and have had no luck what so ever, seems pretty pointless.

If courses are to run in September? Then that's really bad luck for everyone. I hope it's not true.

I hope so. I mean I was told the exact same thing in October for this year.
It's just a pain waiting. Just hope it's real soon. Just want to hear something this month or next month!!

I remember Ronke telling me I should start around July or August, what a distant memory that is. 6 months later still sitting in the pool with my life on standby. Can't plan holidays and can't commit to future dates.

I was told there would be courses in the new year, it's now the new year and we are being told no courses yet planned. Trying to stay positive but I feel further away from a start date now than I did 6 months ago

Yeah. Exactly what Ronke told me! And then Claire told me the new year before she left. It's just the waiting that hurts. Even if we didn't start for 6 months. As long as we can find out and get the dates and contracts through, that's all I care about. And I'm sure all you guys feel the same.

Maybe wait until Friday and give them a call.
Who knows! The wait goes on...

What difference would it make? If I had a holiday then I expect I would have to cancel it if I wanted to get on the course. They aren't going to wait for me to come back from my holiday. (And I don't believe courses just 'come up'). For a £6.5bn project, I would expect there are going to be several project managers poring over Gannt charts, trying to juggle resources, people, assets all to be in their various places at the correct times they are needed.

If I didn't have a holiday planned but wanted to make future plans then that makes the question irrelevant too as asking GTR for information (so we can plan our lives) results in the standard response they have no information yet.

So, I still maintain that it was a fairly superfluous question to ask when there was nothing to be gained by either side by asking it, unless GTR were aware of course dates when asking the question, which it seems they were not.

You would be surprised how many people don't cancel holidays or may be away when the phone rings or letter drops.

The hiring department may or may not be working directly with the training department. I know from my TOC that all the courses for the year are already planned but they are still actively recruiting. Its a very standard recruitment question to ask. They clearly have a high number of applicants. Its potentially worse for them to sift the applicants and send out course dates only to be told by a candidate that they are on holiday that week. Tagging all the information to your application allows them to make the right arrangements for the right people.

To you it may appear pointless but to them its very helpful information.

Listen...
Don't get excited...
But its Friday tomorrow...
#JustSaying

And before Friday they have a full working day to make some calls:D

With the amount of time they taking... Im hopeful they gnna give dates out for courses for the next 3-4 months... Probably can fit about 6 courses in that time

Tbh This whole Friday thing was when Claire was in charge. That's when people would get calls on a Friday's. Now it just seems so unlikely! It's just getting to me now. All the hard work we had done and still nothing to actually be happy about.
