Contract came today also for Bedford for the 23rd November. See you there guys
I thought Claire confirmed anyone in the pool would be offered a contract. Wasn't specific if you had a medical or not
Guys hoping one of you can give me bit of advice.
Ive been given start date 30th november for Kings Cross.
I am relocating to London but have no idea what areas would be good to move too. I want a place that i can get in by train or bus dont want to live in Kings Cross
Tried asking GTR they said they couldnt help. lol
Any advice on were to move to would be great guys

Irish it all depends on you mate and your budget. You could try west London. I.e Paddington and close by areas. Or of you want a little cheaper try east London. In general its pretty expensive to rent. Could also try closer areas such as Warren street or Camden mate.
Well that was never stated to me. All has been said to me (via email) is that once a suitable vacancy becomes available, I can be progressed further. Bedford vacancies have arisen recently and been filled. How would I not be suitable for one of those vacancies and be progressed further with the exception of not having a medical?
I still think it odd that the first tranche of applicants were all given Medicals straight away prior to vacancies arising whereas subsequent applicants were not, therefore perhaps just being available as top ups if any are required from the first lot of applicants.
To put it into perspective I was placed in a talent pool approx 10 years ago (different industry) after jumping through the relevant hoops, subject to a suitable vacant arising. 10 years later I'm still waiting for a call offering me a contract.
First, congratulations! Second you've got to consider that for about 12 months you're going to be on the training wage. The problem with London is its either ridiculously expensive, or ridiculously s**t. Sadly I fear you can may only be able to afford the latter. Why not have a look around the towns that are on the GN route outside the capital, Stevenage, Hertford, letchworth etc etc - they are an easy(ish) commute straight into KGX and obs you travel for free. Initially while training you may want to consider just a lodging in a house, keep your head do your training then when qualified you can afford something better and by then you will have got to know the areas and spoken to colleagues many of them live on the route, as to where good to live.
You have only just thought about this?
I have been over and looked at areas like stevenage and welwyn garden city.
Only problem is if I am working early or late is there staff trains to get me to the depot.
Kings Cross areas around too expensive rather be outside of that.

Thanks mate, I have looked at welwyn garden and stevenage. Its just making sure I can get to the depot earlys or lates. I can only get train or bus. Think your right about asking other staff they would also know staff trains.
Isn't that a lot of "spares" though? Is this just opinion or do you have any detail to suggest it could be true?

You could try South London/Croydon/Three Bridges area, there are overnight GTR trains north from there to St Pancras International
If i was you I would move to an area on the line - there are staff trains that will get you into Kings x on time and its cheaper than renting in london....

Please be aware that GTR have run out of money and have implemented a recruitment freeze. I wouldn't expect to hear back from them until they have been awarded a bonus for ticketless travel. Also there are better companies to work for.

Anyway this taxi agreement sounds excellent does it include if your train is delayed and you finish say 00:01 instead of 23:59
If I stay where I am and it has not been said I need to relocate that would be an expensive taxi for them as I am.bang on the hour but I guess quicker at anti social hours

Worked out as long as I don't start between 5 and 6:30 (6:30 earliest arrival to three bridges from my nearest station) I can train or taxi to work once qualified as long as they keep the agreement
At the moment they are quite flexible and will be get you cab if you start upto about 6, well at blackfriars they do. Don't think they are quite as flexible with other depots as the parking is better.
You can guarantee the earlies start at three bridges will probably be a lot earlier then 5am and the lates will finish after midnight.
As for cost of the taxi, not your issue.
We have a guy who works at blackfriars who lives in Broadstairs

No, I'm not a driver. The recruitment freeze is common knowledge among employees at the moment as we are unable to apply for anything internally. It has been officially briefed out along the lines of "if you have applied for anything at all, then you'll just have to wait until there's money in the budget".

Not at all, it's equally frustrating for employees also. We are unable to move around freely within the company like we used to be able to when it was FCC. My best advice is not to work under a management franchise, the fines are double, sometimes triple the possible bonus and the budget will remain the same. DfT laughed them down when they wanted more money for safety critical staff due to a lighting fault at a station. Unless the job is safety critical, don't expect to hear back for a while. Excluding drivers, sadly.
