Re References. I started today and they still haven't asked for my references so I wouldn't worry too much
Its just a waiting game! All we can do is sit and hope.

It's just a company induction first 3 days and just wear trousers and shirt. No need for ties, suit jackets etc.

surely they must be close by now for them to give us dates! My gut feeling is we will all get the dates roughly at the same time, and some may have November starts, whilst others slightly later

Yeah theres so many reasons why they need drivers at the moment.
Just wish we get an official update from GTR ?????? (with start dates haha)

Who is em?
Emailed Mon on a separate subject. Subsequently asked about start dates and was told no news, no change.
That was Monday. Almost certain to still be the case 4 days later
I hope I'm wrong..............reverse psychology and all that

For all those waiting on Bedford I emailed Claire on Monday and got a very quick response as me and my partner are looking at going to see her family in Switzerland in December to get some skiing in. The email response I got was as follows:-

I doubt v much it will be before December so best to proceed with holiday booking
Pls note I leave the company in a few weeks so will be sending out new contact details next week to everyone in talent pool.

For all those waiting on Bedford I emailed Claire on Monday and got a very quick response as me and my partner are looking at going to see her family in Switzerland in December to get some skiing in. The email response I got was as follows:-

Yep, I got a similar email regarding holidays in November.
Yesterday I had a text from a mate I did the assessment with who's dad is a train driver for GTR (dunno if he posts on here, he never said) - he reckons no move for Bedford until the New Year... prob Jan through to April.
That's a lot of Happy Fridays for those expecting news of something happening more recently. For those like me at the bottom of the waiting list who are still waiting for medicals, I expect it to be more like April as Clare said there are others in the queue ahead of you waiting to be processed.
Sorry to hear that Clare is leaving - maybe she got fed up with people keep ringing her asking about dates

Terrible news to be honest I was heartbroken enough when the August dates didn't happen now looks like Oct/Nov is dead too

I think the issue is that along with not having enough drivers, they also don't have enough driver trainers to accommodate the masses. Also, if you promote a driver to driver trainer then that creates a gap with one less driver to maintain services. Also, what then happens when you have trained your drivers and you are left with a surplus of driver trainers with no work?
Sounds like a very difficult issue to manage for any HR bod, so they have my complete sympathy.

another disappointed soul!! you got to be kidding me!!!.....I spoke to them about a month ago and they did say that I would be placed on a course eventually and I wouldnt be in the pool if they werent going to offer me a job... Monday morning booking leave at work for my holiday at the end of October
But Bedford lot, could the late starts for courses be because of this (extract taken from their website):
The 387/1s will be steadily rolled out on Bedford to Brighton services so that in May virtually every train on this service group will be an Electrostar.
They will remain in service into 2016 when, from the spring, an even newer fleet of next-generation Class 700 trains will be steadily introduced as part of the government-sponsored Thameslink Programme, with more carriages for many longer services and, from 2018, more frequent services on parts of the route.
Basically in 2016 Thameslink will have a new siemens train the class 700, being introduced in Spring, so if we start now we would have to learn on the old trains, and then 5 months later start learning the new class 700
it does kind of seem logical that maybe they are waiting for the class 700 to enter service...what do you guys reckon?

I've thought this too as it would seem the most logical thing to do. When they 700 fleet are fully in service the 387/1's I believe are being relegated somewhere else. Why invest time and money in training you on a certain type of traction only to get a few months use out of it before you then have to learn the 700's?
