I can understand all the doubts creeping in tho. I worry about being told there is a indefinite hold on recruitment. Think I would definitely have a little cry if it all got cancelled! ??????.

Just thinking about finances tho is there anyone on here that has started and is training at the mo? If so can't I ask a personal question and ask how much your take home (net pay) a month is please? Just so I can do some number crunching. Cheers

Gordo, It will depend on whether you get travel time when you are classroom based, how much you choose to pay into your pension, union contributions etc.

Ahhh. I might opt out of a pension for a year until I'm on good wages. I'll pay for the union tho.

You might find with a lot of pensions you only get one chance to join it is with my company at the moment they offer it to you once if you decline or pull out they don't let you back in

Its not all 'doom & gloom' from me ml. I am worried tho, and I think if anyone says they havent had those fears at one time or another, they'd be lying.

With FCC, the application just stopped suddenly. Even tho applicants had got to a certain stage, too bad. A massive wait ensued followed by the 'no longer recruiting' email.

I'm quite a level-headed bloke - spose you have to be to drive a train - but until I get something concrete I'll continue to have concerns.

Pretty sure Claire confirmed we would definately all be offered positions if you are at the talent pool stage

Anyway, to try and lighten up this 'doom and gloom' thread, I have a serious question. I suspect there is a large element of classroom based training involved. Are these class rooms at the depot where you are going to be based or do you have to travel elsewhere?

Hornsey ! That's a two hour commute both ways for me ! I live half hour north of Bedford, so assuming travel time to Beford station, then train into London and two changes back out to Hornsey !

Kings X is do-able though.

Classrooms at hornsey or LGC. You will get paid to commute from your depot to the school - not from home to the school.

When at DMI I'm sure they said training for TL would be at either Bedford or Kings X and GN would be at Hornsey.

I asked that cos I am equidistant between Bedford and Hitchin, and discussed me working out of both

LGC not too far for me, that wouldn't be bad

Bedford has room at the depot and they leased a couple of classrooms just up from the station on Bromham Rd, that's what I've been told anyway.

You driving daily Gaz or taking the train? You rec'd free travel stuff yet?

I'll be taking the train from Huntingdon, it's all paid for and I believe you get paid to travel to Hornsey as my depot is at Peterborough. Also got told refs are paid for too, bonus!
