This film contains a few sequences with what appears to be a narrow gauge steam train (at least the external shots). I suspect this is either Harzer Schmalspurbahnen or Racing Roland from Ruegen, probably the former. Can anyone confirm?

Not seen it, but given that Goerlitz was used as a location, what about one of the Saxon 75cm gauge lines?

Yes, I believe Goerlitz was used as a location, so possibly

IMDB was inconclusive, but gave me Dresden as one of the locations.

Further research in my bestest German revealed the answer from a forum:

It was filmed on the Freital Hainsberg - Kurort Kipsdorf Weißeritztalbahn, one of my favourite ex DR ng lines sadly badly affected by floods twice in recent decades, so no doubt the fee came in handy

Loco used was 99 734 (aka DR 99 1734)

On a similar veign does anyone know the standard gauge railway and station used in The Book Thief? The carriages look remarkably like the ones I used on a German charter back from Wolstyn to Berlin
