Evening everyone (runs flag up trouser leg and waits for applause. Hmm, not a sausage...)
I had (still have actually) my dads old book of the Goon Show scripts (complete with drawings of the characters by Spike Milligan) as a child which I absolutely loved.
I read them to my kids and did the best I could with the voices when they were little as well.
They’ve been repeating episodes each week on Radio 4 Extra, the next episode is ‘The Secret Escritoire’ on Thursday...
Anyway since November I’ve had Spotify Premium and the other day I discovered that there were about twenty or thirty episodes on there that I’ve spent much of this weekend listening to while I got on with jobs around the house.
What absolute joyous and genius lunacy it is to listen to. I can only imagine what it must have been like tuning into the radio to listen to each new episode when they were first aired...
Are there any other fans out there?
I’d be interested to hear from some of our esteemed older forum members that loved it at the time. Or even from anyone born after it’d finished who hasn’t heard it before but fancies giving it a try?
And if you did/do like it, who were your favourite characters?
